Tassos Tavern — Restaurant in Municipality of Rethymnon

08/09. We said we'd be back and we don't regret it though we may need a wheelbarrow to get us to our shuttle pick up! It wasn't a fluke visit as the staff were great and the food absolutely delicious! I had the Gyros and Wayne had Kebab so we could share. He left a bit of a kebab after finishing my chips! So kebab and gyros meat for supper it is! Best Irish Whiskey ever 🥰

06/09. First visit to Rethymno, we wandered around for a little then decided to stop for a drink. Not very busy which was part of the attraction for us today but those that were there appeared to be enjoying themselves. We decided to get a Chicken Club sandwich!!! Let's just say we'll be enjoying it for our supper too!! The Amstel and draught Mythos was beautifully cold and refreshing, the chips that came with the sandwich were some of the best I've tasted and the sandwich is by far the best I've had ANYWHERE globally. Simply delicious and fresh food. I don't know what can be added when the plates were left empty at the end. We'll definitely return until the end of holiday. LE: second time in 5 days and again the food was amazing with generous portions. And most important, a real authentic greek taste. Later edit: after we tried many restaurants in Rethymno, some of them good and other disaster, we certainly can say Tassos Tavern is the best in the area. Everything we ate here was absolutely delicious, generous portions and definitely authentic Greek food (I'm passionate about greek food and I know how greek food should look and taste). In 10 days we visited Tassos Tavern 7 times and if will visit Rethymno in the future, this is the place we'll return...

Unfortunately, my visit to this restaurant was far from enjoyable. The food was clearly not freshly prepared, it had most definitly been reheated from frozen, as if bought from Lidl. Every dish arrived lukewarm at best, noticeably dry, even the vegetables.

Service was equally underwhelming. The waitstaff seemed more interested in chatting among themselves than attending to guests. The waitstaff was inattentive and hard to get in touch with. Furthermore they barely spoke a lick of anything other than greek and did not even care when told the food was dry.

Overall, the combination of rather bad food and inattentive service made for a disappointing dining experience. I wouldn’t recommend this...
