We recently visited this restaurant during our visit to the old town of Rethymon. We were looking for a traditional authentic taverna who provided typical Greek food and came across it whilst strolling on the ocean front. We were greeted by an elderly polite gentleman who took us through to the kitchen area to view some of their offerings, at this stage it was difficult to interpret if the food was of quality or not. We were quite rushed into choosing our food from the menu and in the end just quickly chose meatballs for my husband and lasagne for myself along with a typical Greek salad. We were served our chosen drinks and the food was served almost immediately which was great. That was the beginning of the end for this restaurant. The meatballs were cold and unappetizing, the lasagne again was barely warm with pasta sheets on the top and what looked like macaroni in the middle, the minced meat what small amount there was was tasteless and hardly any cheese. It was inedible and just couldn't be eaten. The salad was just ok, we have had much better Feta cheese elsewhere, the bread was stale. None of the waiters came to ask if the food was ok at any point and when we were ready to leave we asked for the bill but it never arrived in the end we had to stand up and go across to a desk at the rear of the restaurant. The man sat there was uninterested and even took 2 telephone calls in the middle of prepping the bill, never asked if we had enjoyed the food or visit, in fact no interaction what so ever, just pure rudeness. Do not reccomend this restaurant in fact avoid...
Read moreMy first one star rating in years of reviews! Two of us visited for lunch. We ordered a carafe of house white wine and there was a dead fly floating at the bottom of it! When we complained the service went from bad to worse. The carafe was inspected then grudgingly taken away. A replacement arrived with not so much as an apology. Totally unacceptable, as was the replacement wine. Both of us enjoy our wine and are not fussy but the stuff they gave us would have been better used to clean the kitchen sink. We didn't drink it and if it hadn't been chilled and brought out quickly we would have thought they had put something in it. Menu is basic and typically greek. The food was ok however the wine and poor service experience was the end of our happy lunch... they obviously don't care if they can't afford an apology for a dead fly in a bottle of wine. Visit at...
Read moreAmazing Greek Experience at Samaria!
If you're looking for authentic Greek cuisine, look no further than Samaria. We ordered Moussaka and Gyros, and both were simply outstanding. The meat was of high quality—lean, tender, and bursting with flavor. The service was also incredibly friendly, making us feel right at home from the moment we walked in.
To anyone reading this, don't let a few negative reviews from grumpy tourists deter you. Our experience was fantastic, and the prices are more than fair for the quality you receive. We highly recommend giving Samaria a try—you...
