Saffron — Restaurant in Municipality of Rethymnon

I recently went here with my family hand had an absolutely atrocious experience, we arrived and the staff were unprepared for our arrival despite our booking, so they quickly scurried away to try and piece together a table despite their trouble putting the table together as if it were some complex jigsaw puzzle we finally got seated and after about half an hour of watching the brainless staff members walk around like zombies with their heads down avoiding eye contact at all cost we managed to usher over a rude an impatient staff member to take our order, we then waited a further 15 minutes for our drinks to arrive which is completely mind boggling to me as it has never taken me 15 minutes to walk 20 yards and open 6 bottles but there we are another 10 minutes had then passed before our starters started coming out in an extremely irrational and slow paced manner once they had all arrived most had gone cold and sat in grease for so long they were soggy fried bits of dubious meat quite frankly nothing to say we righty demanded to only pay for the drinks. Has a bad experience here.Gets fantastic reviews but maybe we caught them on a bad night. waited 50 mins for a drink, then another 15 for the starters which came out in 5 minute intervals for 6 of us. My daughter ordered the mixed starter, to say it was bland is an understatement,tasted like boiled cauliflower with greasy batter over the top, my wife ordered mushroom tikka which was absolutely vile. mushrooms on a sizzling hotplate which tasted like bits of offal. I Had a chicken tikka salad which was tasty but served in a cereal bowl with no presentation whatsoever. I complained to the waiter about our experience and told him I would not be paying for anything apart from the drinks. Very disappointed after looking forward to a nice curry in crete. we ended up getting some lovely ice cream from a kiosk around the corner. Hygiene is really bad, I visited this restaurant and the lady who was serving us clearly had flu / cold. She was sneezing, coughing and after she used her hands to cover the sneeze she carried on serving without washing her hands. If she is unwell she should stay home, clean her hands / wear gloves / mask. Unfortunately for me I noticed it after finishing our food while I was waiting to get her attention to pay the bill, in those 3-5mins she sneezed 4-5times and coughed after that I couldn’t wait to leave, but was too late by then. Next day I had the cold too and my next 5days on the island were ruined, my girlfriend also caught cold.
