Spent a week here recently and having read the reviews I have to say I wasn't disappointed.||||If you're looking for an upmarket hotel with a bar scene and full service then this place is not likely for you. However, if you're looking for a warm welcome with some peace and quiet then don't look any further than the Hotel Byzantine.||||We had a late arrival and Nikos was on hand to assist despite it being nearly midnight, He showed us to a spacious room which was perfectly maintained. He isn available over Breakfast (consisting of freshly squeezed orange juice, pastries, breads & tea/coffee) to provide information or suggestions on activities and may even offer to go with you to help!||||The location is excellent, right on the edge of the old town so its a short walk to the port and all the nearby restaurants. The only drawback was the church bells early in the morning but once we were used to them it didnt really matter, ||||Overall a...
Read moreI think this hotel is perfect ( see my previous reviews ) but the owner, Nikos , disagrees and always has something new on the go .Last year he installed new water pipes and redid the bathrooms and I was nearly blown out of the shower when I turned it on ....not a common experience in Crete .I think the walls are three feet/one metre thick and its only when you walk in from the heat to the cool of the foyer that you appreciate ancient building techniques .This year it's flat screen TV , which raises the question of why anybody would bother watching TV in this hotel . The breakfast is too much ! , yogurt and fruit , bread , cake , boiled egg and ham and cheese .The best hotel in Crete if you want a friendly owner ( he is always amazed when people ask if they can leave their luggage there on their last day " of course " he says " you are my guest " . I dream of this place during the...
Read moreThis hotel is quite different than any other hotel I've been too, feels more like a house or pension. The staff were friendly and helpful. But the bathroom needed more maintenance, especially the toilet. Every time we flush, it keeps leaking water, so we needed to flush twice. And I had to tell Ms Maria that the bathroom floor towel needed to be change, because the maid didn't change it in the first time. ||The breakfast was exquisite, like a fancy meal from the middle age. The price of the spacious room for three nights is very very cheap.||Just bear in mind this place isn't suitable for people who are used to lifts, because you will have to clime up the stairs to get...
