Sto Karfi Kai Sto Petalo — Restaurant in Municipality of Rethymnon

#ENG_VERSION This was our first time to Crete. This was our first cafe that was chosen to visit in Rethimno. Honestly, we swallowed up complimentary advices at TripAdvisor. And I decided that we needed to cheer ourselves up with a tasty food with friendly owners. We ordered gyros. To be clear - we ordered 2 gyroses from the 'special offer' menu and 2 beer. Total 19 euros. And we had greasy meat that was literally swimming in oil. Sidedish was potatoes that looked more like Lay's and 2 slice of tomato and cucumber. That was put out on a plate but really the a portion was pretty small, but at the same time really heavy to digest. We have ordered gyros 4/5 times in other places and I can tell you, that here is the worst one (sorry). But that could be just a coincidence. What really made us disturbed is that waitresses were shouting to each other while moving from one place to another. They didn't care about how guests feel about that.

Честно - просто повелись на отзывы ТрипЭдвайзера, ну уж слишком хвалебные отзывы, я подумала, что для поднятия настроения - нам просто необходим гостеприимный ресторан с большими порциями еды (ну весь день не ели) и уютной атмосферой.

Мы заказали гирос. Точнее, мы заказали 2 гироса и 2 пива (спец. меню) за 19 евро. Нам принесли пережаренное мясо (свинину), которая буквально плавала в масле. Также была картошка, которая была настолько высушенная, что больше напоминала чипсы и 2 кусочка помидорки с 2 кусочками огурца. Это было выложено на огромную тералку, но на самом деле порция была очень маленькая, хоть и из-за пережаренности оочень тяжелая. Мы после этого заказывали гирос 3-4 раза. И здесь он был самым невкусным, к сожалению (возможно, совпадение).

Но даже не это больше всего смутило нас. Дело в том, что ресторан находится в двух зданиях, эти два здания не рядом друг с другом, а через дорогу (пешеходную). Когда официант(ка) уходили в другую часть, т.е. переходили дорогу - они продолжали общаться друг с другом. Они кричали через всю улицу, через все столы, чтобы что-то сказать. И там было не пара слов, там была прям беседа. Я сама работала официанткой - мне бы за такой мой супервайзер голову бы оторвала и закопала бы у себя в огороде в этот же день. Было очень некомфортно сидеть и не слышать собственных мыслей. Сначала я подумала - господи, это во всех ресторанах так себя ведут хозяева? Ну то есть, это нормальное поведение. К счастью, нет, больше такого я не встречала нигде за весь отдых.

В общем, я бы это место...

SCAM! Tourist trap! We never faced something rude like this. We're shocked. The dominant old women with fake smile. She is talking rude about other Customers in the Kitchen. Check your receipt. We ordered mineral water 500ml for 1euro. They bring us 1liter which should costs 1,90eu. We thought that maybe the servant is not listening correctly. Later we discussed about that water which costs 4,50euro because is sparking! Then we discussed and the owner doesnt feel guilty at all and start becoming loud. I am pretty sure that they regularly scam tourists like this.

Next: we asked if the fish has any side dishes or it is only the fish by itself then the female servant said it is only the fish without anything like it is shown on the card. So we decided to order some side dishes. After we end the side dishes because they came 30min later, the fish came with fries and salad. Pure scam! The servant forced us to buy side dishes and spend more money!

We also ordered tomate balls, after i see them discussing 5min with the kitchen the servant came back and Prefer the succine balls. The kitchen was lazy make new tomato balls and let us eat the things that left over, succine balls!

By the way: After we found out she scams us with the receipt. The owner said that the bread costs extra!! I asked the female servant but she evaded and doesnt want to feel guilty to anything she said to us...dont come here. The receipt was without taxes. Only wrote down the endprice! Scams everywhere. If you want to buy the female owner more luxury products and support Tax evasion...

I lost my appetite when I saw 3 cockroaches on the way to the toilet. Then I received the wine which was sour. Food came, which wasn't that bad BUT quite small dishes.

addendum: I find it really funny, that a person labelled as "restaurant owner", sends me a message claiming that "i clearly haven't been at the restaurant" sir, i still remember your place: your restaurant is kind of splitted, the kitchen was on one side of the road, but we were sitting kind of across so across the street next to us, was another big room with further tables plus the toilet, thats where i met you roaches, mate i remember your multi-language menu in english, german, french... among the things we ordered i remember clearly the salad, the kleftikon, the rabbit traditionally cooked and another dish based on mincemeat, which were not bad but just... smaller portions than expected or as i wish they would be but most of all, i remember clearly the woman who introduced herself as restaurant owner, she met us at the table and explained us that we should take the rabbit, cause "its fresh from her farm" etc.

you know what, getting "screwed" as a tourist, thats what you are afraid of, right? thats how i felt that night, i got screwed, i felt like a dummy who's function is just to leave his money the table and wave goodbye

please, do not question my experience at your place

i would rather expect you to say 'sorry, mate, everybody has a bad night, next time you come over, dinner is one me' and that would be the end of...
