Enigma — Restaurant in Municipality of Rhodes

Saved this place for last night of holiday. Was really looking forward. I had the pork shank, wifey had the "Fillet" steak. First of all I knew the shank would be a reheat as it takes long slow cooking. When I cut into it though, it was fridge cold. Not only that, everything else on the plate was cold, the rice, the potatoes, the veg. All stone cold. Someone needs to learn how to work the microwave properly. Shame as it had the makings of a tasty meal. The wife's "fillet" steak was no more a fillet than I am Donald Trump. We've cooked and eaten enough of them to know. I've never seen a fillet steak five inches across and three quarters of an inch thick. A piece of rump being fraudulently passed as fillet for I believe, if I remember correctly, 35 euros. As a piece of cheap rump it was okay but fillet steak this was not. Enigma is a busy restaurant in a good location charging some of the highest prices in Pefkos. Don't be fooled by this thinking you are gonna get extra quality. You don't. The waitresses were charming but poorly trained. The house...

We had looked forward to our meal at Enigma having heard so much about it and passed it during our holiday and admired the beautiful layout. We sat down to our meal with a lack lustre welcome. I ordered courgette blossoms which arrived in a thick batter and were inedible. I scraped the remains of the flower and cheese out of the batter and ate it but left the massive chunks of batter on the plate. We asked for a carafe of red wine to go with my husband’s tuna which was excellent and a friends duck. We asked once, we asked twice. We asked three times we asked four times. The Tuna and duck were finished and we called a waiter and cancelled the wine. No apology. My daughter also asked four times for her drinks at the other end of the table and eventually got up to remind some one of the order. Gorgeous dinner. Excellent attentive service, perfectly cooked steak that was delicious and good value too. I wish I could access such tasty bread rolls as a starter in England. A crispy edge is very rare. Lurpak butter - top marks - another rarity for me.

Lovely gentle breeze and a waiter willing to discuss Pefkos cat welfare amongst his more pressing tasks - catsalutely five star. This will be a restaurant I'd return to in Pefkos, absolutely lovely. I did have a dinner date but please note he was very well mannered and this is beyond the control of the hospitality...
