We come to Rhodes every year and we love Anthony Quinn's Bay. Every time we enjoy morning coffee as we arrive at Kounna and at lunch we come back. We ate here probably 30 times and we loved it...until this year. Something happened as at first we thought something was wrong with the first order of fried calamari. They were so bad you can't even imagine. Chewy and some parts raw...so we ordered another one as this might have been an error. The second time was as bad as the first... Keep in mind we were here so many times and they were the best on all island. At second course we usually ate pasta so we did that: linguine and paccheri pasta. It was uneatable. Paccheri pasta was not aldente or done, it couldn't be chewed. The sauce was good. The seafood linguine which, in the previous years were the star of pasta dishes, were somekind of indian pasta tasting like curry, also a bitter taste was in there and the onions in the sauce were burned. Of course we gave the benefit of the doubt and ordered again just to be sure as we recommended this location to everyone for years. The result was exactly the same... We approacched the waiter and asked if there is new personal in the kitchen as we encountered all these issues and she said that she will ask what happened and come back ... which of course didn't happen. Maybe if you go for the first time you will say ...it is for tourists so what do you expect? They had one of the best restaurantes in Rhodes and you can't go down the hill like that. I encouraged all the people i know to go again and give feedback maybe something will change. It is a great location, with a great vibe, with nice people and it needs to have...
Read moreThe place is very beautiful and with a super nice and tasty menu, totally worth a sit if you are in the area. However, the service is rather chaotic. Very early in the morning we took some coffee to go, but had to wait around 5 min for father to pick up something he forgot in the car and decided to have a seat, since it was almost empty and waiters kept telling everyone to go outside, that we were not allowed to even touch the table if our drinks were “ to go”. After father arrived I wanted to go in to tell my family that we are ready to go to the beach and they didn’t let me go to bro to even give the message because there no entering the bar once you got your coffee To go, very rude ladies.
At lunch, we had a table inside and made our order, but my mom could not enter. I kept telling the waitress that we had a table allocated and my mom is just outside, but she said she would have to be written on a waiting list and only after she can join us. Very disrespectful. My mom does not speak English and she felt very disrespected being pushed outside rudely, when all family was in. In the end, a nice man understood and was kind to even listen to us, but the experience was shameful.
I fully understand that the place gets busy at lunch and they need to make sure people wait in line, but some respect for the clients is never underrated. Waiters were good in table service, but the two ladies with waiting list and seating were very disrespectful and...
Read moreIt's OK. It's one of those places trying to be cool. It really doesn't need to try as the views are outstanding. The outside toilet cubicles are dirty but if they were clean they'd be quite nice. The sink idea is cool, taps with running water onto rocks underneath the taps - that'd be awesome if the rocks weren't covered in bits of paper towels.
We didn't have food and to be honest, the waiter didn't look overlay happy that we weren't having food, the drinks are fairly pricey but I guess you'd expect that as some of their seats overlooking the beach are swings. There's no draft lager or beer but again, no worries.
There's no baby changing facilities but the weather was nice so we changed him on a wall outside.
My best advice? There was a little drinks van outside - not sure if they did food or snacks too but they certainly served alcoholic drinks. Get your drinks there, they're less than half the price of this place, sit on the semi circle of seating that's provided, or just check out the view. That's free and utterly beautiful without the loud music on top (only loud of you sit inside...
