Honest, family-run taverna that still has its roots and traditions. They have the most significant grill in Loutro and you can see the chimney rising above the buildings. It's a popular place, so it is a good idea to drop by earlier in the day and make a reservation.
We stayed 5 nights in the rooms above the restaurant. They were spotlessly clean, equipped with a modern and quiet air conditioner and a large balcony that was like our living room.
We enjoyed the grilled meat and other traditional Cretan food on 7 nights of our stay. Everything we tasted was great: lamb, souvlaki, minced beef, octopus... My wife loved the aubergine salad that was full of grilled aubergine.
We felt welcome here every night and you can feel that the multiple generations running the place take pride in it. Also the hired staff is very polite and I'd give an extra mention to the Syrian gentleman working there at least on...
Read moreIf you visit in high season, it will get busy and you may have to wait for your food. That's because it is run by a family and the food is freshly prepared as you order. Don't be impatient. Don't clock watch. Just take a cold drink and enjoy the view.
The meat is all sourced locally - from the Sfakian mountains. Their Mizithra cheese is also local and is delicious. You know it must be good, when the locals eat here themselves.
