Pretty restaurant in the heart of Artemonas , nice terrace and patio. We were a table of six, we had to ask to connect two tables in the patio as there was no atmosphere on the above terrace and although there were reservations, a table was free and this seemed to bother them. The toilet door doesn’t close and I had to hold the door…
Regarding the food, the plates are a good reinterpretation of classic Greek dishes but with a modern twist. However, prices are high for the quantity. We shared two starters and two main dishes of which one rib eyed steak for 4 people with side dishes. The steak was small for what we paid, and could have served two easily. The sides dishes, zucchini and potato’s were good, and we only asked for bread for three. The peach dessert, the beetroot apetisser and moussaka were lovely. As per the menu, the mains are shareable however we ordered a Seafood couscous which although excellent, not sufficient for two main courses. In 6 with a bottle of wine we spent 345 €.
Although the seating area in itself and the decor were nice, the service was peculiar. Being a more sophisticated restaurant, you expect a different type of service meeting the price of the plates. However, we felt that we were more accommodating to their expectation rather than the other way around : insisting on separating courses (whereas Greece is known for sharing mezzes) and main dishes not arriving together; rushed clean up between courses whilst some are still finishing because the next course is already cooked, ready and getting cold next to us, hovering waiters. Just to mention, in the serving staff, the two young girls serving our table and the woman who read the menu and took our order were lovely. However, the place settings were wrapped up in paper napkins, the place settings were paper which was rolled up whilst we were...
Read moreWe recently dined at the culinary gem (and financial trap) known as 'Perivoli' on Sifnos. To say the food was excellent would be an understatement—the flavors danced on the palate, the presentation was artful, and the portions were generous. However, this delightful experience was marred by what can only be described as the most expensive bread in Europe.
Let's start with the positives: the mains were perfectly cooked, the starters were a symphony of taste, and even the salad felt like it had been kissed by a garden fairy. Every bite was a testament to the chef's undeniable skill. But, unfortunately, our evening took a turn for the absurd the moment our waiter arrived.
Upon being seated, our waiter—let's call him ‘The Bread Pusher’— insisted we try the bread basket. Not wanting to be rude, we accepted. Little did we know, each piece of bread was apparently handcrafted by angels, considering the price tag (4€ a piece) We enjoyed our meal, blissfully unaware of the financial ambush awaiting us.
When the bill arrived, my eyes bulged out of their sockets as I saw the breakdown: 55€ for bread. Yes, you read that right. Fifty-five Euros. For bread. No, it wasn't made of gold. No, it didn't come with a side of caviar. It was just bread.
When questioned, ‘The Bread Pusher’ gave a half-smile and a shrug, as if to say, "You've been had." And had we were. For 55€, I could have bought enough flour to bake bread for the entire neighbourhood for a month. Instead, we were left with a bill that was the perfect mix of irony and insult.
In summary, if you're looking for excellent food and an unforgettable experience, 'Perivoli' is the place to go. Be sure that bread will leave a hole in...
