Agkyra Eatery was love at first sight. First of all, I have to admit that I was won over by the sea view. Then the food, which was absolutely delicious. As a result, we ate here about 5 times during our 8 days in Greece.
However, it is known that the food in Greece is good. So what makes one place more special than another? For me, hospitality and attention to customers make the difference. And we encountered this at Agkyra, both from the employer's side and from the employees' side.
From the Greek salad, pasta with beef cheeks, cheese donuts with tomato jam and bougiourdi, I loved everything. Including the wines and Anchor Spritz. Last but not least, here was the best and huge portokalopita I've had.
For me, another big plus is the music pairing with the venue. Many places have background music just for the sake of playing something, but at Agkyra, the music selection is done with super good taste.
I totally recommend this place to anyone...
Read moreWe spent around €40 per person, but unfortunately the food was very underwhelming. The octopus came dressed with balsamic vinegar – something I have never seen in Greece and which really didn’t work. The meat was served rare and of questionable quality, the fried zucchini arrived cold, and the fries were greasy and heavy with oil. The seafood “risotto” wasn’t even a proper risotto – bland and lacking any flavor. Several other dishes we tried were also far below expectations.
On the positive side, the location is beautiful and the restaurant itself is well maintained. However, it feels like they are trying to offer a “sophisticated” cuisine to justify higher prices, but without delivering on taste or quality. In my opinion, they would be better off focusing on simple, authentic Greek cooking with more accessible prices – something that truly reflects the country’s culinary values. The end result would almost certainly...
Read moreThe green salad is really good. The rest of the food we had was generally ok. Atmosphere and view is really nice. However, the service is really poor. We had a very rude waiter. For some reason they bring half of the bill mid-meal. When we asked what's that, he didn't give much explanation, but kept asking if we're paying cash or card. We said card and he told us to go to the desk to pay when we've finished. Fair enough. However, when it got time for paying, he tried to stop us going to the pay desk and told us we should've paid at the table, completely opposite to what he repeated multiple times previously. Then his colleague kept insisting we had said cash which we never did. We ended up paying by cash, but honestly the staff and the poor organisation ruined the experience for us, hence the one star. Edit: Forgot to mention the door in the bathroom does not lock too, which was a bit...
