If you’re in Sitia and looking for the perfect place to eat, go to Thalassa. After trying different restaurants in East Crete, we stumbled across this gem and honestly, it became our favourite spot of the whole trip.
The menu has so much choice and every dish we tried was delicious. The mousakka and gyros were out of this world, full of flavour and served in big, generous portions. The presentation is beautiful too, and desserts are just as impressive.
The atmosphere is unbeatable. You can sit inside or right by the harbour with magical evening lighting, the setting makes every meal feel special.
The staff are what really makes Thalassa stand out. George in particular gave us such amazing service that we kept coming back again and again. Everyone is friendly, welcoming, and goes above and beyond to make sure you’re happy, even when it’s busy.
If you go (and you really should!), don’t miss the fried feta with honey or the garlic bread topped with feta and rocket – both are absolute must-tries.
Thalassa isn’t just a meal, it’s an experience. Highly, highly recommend. you...
Read moreWorst restaurant in Sitia… I ordered the vegan risotto which was supposed to be a mushroom risotto. The plate that came was a kind of rice soup thing without any mushrooms. The rice was overcooked and it was swimming in water. When I told the waiter that they seemed to have forgotten to add the mushrooms, he told me that “there was a typo on the menu” and “this is how we normally make it”. He didn’t seem to have any intentions of either correcting this “typo” or adding mushrooms to my plate. The other vegetables seemed like they came from a bag of frozen mixed veggies. This dish was a parody on a risotto and shouldn’t bare the name of one. Furthermore, the appetizers arrived cold and I was charged for bread that i didnt order. The bread came before the meal and the other restaurants in Sitia do this for free so i didn’t think twice about it. It came with rancid olives, hummus which tasted too much tahini and some tasteless pickled beetroot. TL;DR: watery mushroom risotto without mushrooms and...
Read moreThe food is very tasty and there’s a wide variety of choice. It’s not always very refined but yummy nevertheless. You get a complementary aperitive and dessert!
The staff is superfriendly yet not always very effective. They are literally jogging (sometimes sprinting) across the terras while everyone has already been served; you also have to wait a long time for the order to be taken or the check to be delivered. It seems to be the Greek way to leave you to enjoy your meal peacefully on a slow pace.
The tables by the water are very enjoyable. The other tables also offer a great view of the numerous cultural events held by Sitia! Don’t forget to visit their...
