It’s tough to know which restaurant is a better deal, better value and better food, so is this little town of Moraitika. But after trying a few, I’m going to summarize it: Winner: The Village Taverna After reading hours of reviews, this was not one of my top choice from my long list but my wife said she wanted to try this. Once again proves the motto “wife is always right”. 1. Price - This actually upset me, many review said this and another restaurant near by are in the same price range. I tried both. The Village Tavern was hands down cheaper (I'm not even gonna sugar coated with "better value") The owner Niko custom ordered stuff for us and I don't even know what I ordered so please refer to photos when you want to order the same thing. The bill was at least 20% less. For example, garlic bread was $.80 and same thing was $2 at another restaurant. Those reviews that said they are the same price range disappointed me. Ya gotta give accurate information. 2. Friendliness - Some of these local restaurants claimed they are family business, and it's true, they pretty much are family run and family work at these restaurants. However, Niko and his families stand out. They are very friendly, make you feel like you are their home guests and eat at their home. Everyone was very friendly. They even offered free desserts since we were so full we didn't want to order desserts. 3. Service - Very attentive, responsive and effective. They did get busy later so I assume food may take longer. Summary: It's hard to know where to eat when you travel but you learned your lessons and you hope others will. I don't know if I will ever return to Corfu but if I do, I won't even bother going to another restaurant for their menu selection is better and food is better and the price is cheaper than other places. One of the restaurants I tried doesn't even offer grilled octopus... In Greece? No grilled octopus? Come on?! Food we ordered: Grilled feta on garlic bread - Amazing garlic butter smell from the bread but then he cut a piece of fried cheese and put on top of the garlic bread. Then the grilled feta on top of the fried cheese. It was extraordinary. The sauce with the grilled feta was so delicious, it’s got a tingly sweet taste to the sauce. So amazing! Zucchini balls - I enjoyed it immensely. The flavor was just right. Little crispy on the outside and not too doughy in the inside. Seafood pasta - the 2 prawns was big and mussels were fresh. The sauce is pretty good. The spaghetti was cooked Al dente. Very good. Braised Lamb veal - Flavor was rich, not gamely and meat fall off the bones. Pasta with beef - That was the most special of all. Sauce was amazingly sophisticated. Spectacularly flavorful. The steak was also very tender. Trying to figure which part because it was so tender but it’s not like ribeye or flank… could be flank but not sure how it can be made so tender. Grilled octopus - owner Niko said it will be the best grilled octopus I ever had and I was like, yeah right, it can’t be better than the grilled octopus I had at Cinque Terra. Well… I’m glad I didn’t tell him cause the grilled octopus was amazing. The aroma of grilled octopus and the taste. Texture was perfect. I could have 2… now I regretted, should have ordered 2.

Oct ‘22 The Village Taverna is a lovely family run restaurant in the hills above Moraitika. A short walk up a side road from the Domes Miramare Resort. The restaurant has a lovely outdoor setting with a few tables out in the open and the remainder under cover but still open for a breeze. The family running it are incredibly friendly and helpful and after talking to the owners have run the venue for several generations The first visit Laura had the Ionian Prawn cocktail as a starter, and the chefs special (a lamb stew) as a main course and I had the zucchini (courgette) balls for a starter and the Kleftiko as a main course. To drink we had a carafe of red wine which was very drinkable we also had dessert’s, Laura the chocolate Mousse and I had the Pancakes with Kumquat sauce. All excellent quality. The second visit Laura has the Grilled Feta which one of the owners asked ‘would you like it the local way’, which she said yes, as a starter and Bream as the main. I had the stuffed Cabbage Leaves and said I couldn’t make my mind up on the main course but couldn’t eat seafood. Again the Co owner asked did I like lamb(yes), did I trust him (yes), we shook hands and off he went. The lamb dish was lovely. My wife had told the it was my birthday as it was one of the owners daughters husbands, they switched the Taverna lights of came out with some apple pie with a candle in and all sang happy birthday 👏 👏👏👏 The 2 daughters who help out looking after customers, one teaches pure mathematics, the other is a veterinarian but they do an amazing job looking after customers. Quite frankly one of the most hospitable places I’ve ever been.

ENGLISH The Village Taverna is a real family business - mum is in the kitchen and the rest of the family manages the multilingual service with bravura & heart. Coming from Benitses, shortly after entering Moraitika, you have to turn right up a rather narrow and steep road to find this culinary gem. We were lucky and spontaneously got a table - and also a place for our small car. The service is lightning fast and very friendly, you feel right at home - except for the delicious Greek food, which is unfortunately not yet available @home...😉 The Village Taverna was a real gem and definitely convinced us in terms of cuisine. We started with a cool beer - non-alcoholic, of course - and an ice-cold mineral water. This was followed by some traditional starters - there was a kind of Greek bruschetta, super tasty I can tell you - a MUST TRY if you are there - and some fried courgette "balls", totally crispy and almost without fat - super tasty! After that "the ice was broken" and we continued with mussels, lamb chops, a handful of grilled prawns, a very delicious octopus, pork souvlaki, seafood spaghetti, tzatziki, kalamata olives and of course garlic bread. Everything was cooked to perfection throughout and came to the table with those much-loved roasted flavours. The grilled octopus and prawns in particular were a real dream, beautifully juicy, thank you very much! The desserts were also worth mentioning, especially Mama's chocolate mousse - nice and fluffy and not too sweet! In terms of price, The Village Taverna is in the middle of the range of restaurants we have visited on Corfu so far. I can recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys authentic cuisine at a high level. Feel free to check out my other reviews and be sure to visit the foodadvisorblog! Of course, I would be very happy if you follow me on my Google Maps profile, thank you.
