Black John's — Restaurant in Municipality of Sparta

It is always sad when you have to change a review. This place used to be the best place to grab a burger in town. However it changed for the worst. Last time we were there, it was transformed to a money grabbing scheme. It was during a big event in town. It took them 20 minutes to welcome us and ask for our order. We ordered 4 burgers with french fries..At first they weren't sure if they had burgers left (mind that this was at 22:30!!) but they took the order anyway. After 1 hour they brought burgers with salads and not french fries. When we told them this was not the order, the boss told us that they run out of french fries so we have to take the salads! He didn't even apologize for this. This happened to many other tables as well. Due to our table being frustrated and angry, the chef, told him to bring us 1 alternative potato plate, with 5 potato balls. Of course we paid full price for everything. Avoid this place, as there are alternatives who respect...

Charged us for an extra burger, tried to say we actually did receive the extra burger and/or received one type of burger versus another. Then gave us the bill with no total and we had to manually do the math.

Edit: To add to owner’s response: You did not ask for more time to clarify the issue. Instead, the server argued with us multiple times as to why we were wrong, rather than just removing the charge for the extra burger. As customers we should not have to argue with staff over which food we did or did not receive.

Receipt issue was very challenging given the above issues. And also not within our control as customers.

On a rainy spring morning I figured that rubbing Leonidas' lucky toenail would be the highlight of my visit to Sparti. I was wrong. Black John's is a brilliant burger joint which saved my visit. Although I was old enough to be the father of every person in the place (I must be down with the kids) the food is very good. I had a cheese burger and fries and could barely walk after - quantity is as good as the quality! The staff are polite too.
