I recently had the absolute pleasure of dining at Diethnes restaurant in Sparti, and I can confidently say that this establishment is a true gem in every sense of the word. From the moment you step in, you're transported to a world where the essence of Greece and Sparti's heritage come alive.
The fearless leader of this culinary expedition is none other than Panayotis, affectionately known as Taki, who could easily be mistaken for a chiseled Spartan warrior from a bygone era. His passion for delivering the finest Greek cuisine is palpable in every dish served. Taki and his family’s commitment to authenticity shine through, and it's clear that they pour their heart and soul into every culinary creation.
And let's not forget about Giorgos, his loyal culinary compatriot, who complements Taki's vision seamlessly. Together, they form an unbeatable team dedicated to making your dining experience unforgettable.
Diethnes is more than just a restaurant; it's a family affair that encapsulates the very essence of Sparti and Greece. The moment you enter the premises, you're welcomed into their extended family, and that warmth is reflected in the attentive service you receive.
The food at Diethnes is nothing short of spectacular. Every bite is a journey through Greece's rich culinary heritage. The flavors burst with authenticity, and it's like a symphony of tastes that dance on your palate. Whether it's the succulent grilled meats, the fresh seafood, or the heavenly pastries, every dish is a testament to the culinary prowess of Taki and his team.
As you dine in the enchanting garden, you'll be surrounded by the beauty of Greece, with grapes, olives, and citrus trees hanging in the Greek twilight. Eating authentic Greek food under the Spartan stars is a truly magical experience. It's as if you've been transported to a different time and place, and for a moment, you're living a scene out of a Greek fantasy.
I've had the privilege of dining at Diethnes three times now, and each visit has been a culinary journey filled with joy and Kefi (the Greek spirit of joy, passion, and enthusiasm). Whether you're a local or a traveler passing through Sparti, this restaurant is a must-visit. I've brought my family here, and they share my sentiment – we long to come back to Diethnes, where the heart of Greece beats in every dish, and the Spartan spirit lives on. This place is a true treasure, and I can't recommend it enough....
Read moreTOURIST TRAP Here is a restaurant trying to hold on to it's former glory that does not want to move forward. Four of us went for a late lunch and ordered mains and salads. After a while the salads and three mains were brought to us with the bread basket and no cutlery. After waiting 10 minutes one of us went inside and informed them. Finally our last meal was brought out with cutlery for one person. Waited for 5 minutes and informed them again that we needed cutlery. Got the cutlery and started eating a what can only be described as a very very poor meal.. Mate, let me give you the news. We are locals to Greece and know what good Greek food is. Pity yours isn't. Just in case you forgot which I doubt it, Briam is made up of an equal percentage of vegetables, not 90% potatoes. Also is is in the lathera group of dishes because it is supposed to have a big dose of olive oil in it. The oil was minimal and most likely mixed with some sort of vegetable oil. I know it mate because I've been eating good quality olive oil from my families groves for decades. Shame on you for trying to stooge...
Read moreThis is a delightful place to eat. My wife and I walked in not knowing what to expect. A man (who turned out to be the owner) started talking with us and explaining what food they had. After a little conversation, he said he would make us a lamb dish with eggplant and potatoes. All I can say is that, from first bite to last, it was delicious! We enjoyed sitting in the beautiful garden behind the restaurant looking at the citrus trees and relishing the cool breeze. The owner served us himself and talked with us for a while. I already told some friends about this place and they enjoyed it too. I'll only be in Sparti for a week, but I'll eat here again...
