Update: Don't worry, a bad and expensive restaurant experience is not able to destroy our holidays.
The atmosphere is nice, but the food is not worth the steps. We enjoyed the symi shrimp, though the portion was very small for 13 euros. The seafood linguine was not good at all plus a small portion for 20 euros. It was rather boiled pasta in a soup with few pieces of seafood. The Dakos salad was bland and we've definitely tried better versions of it elsewhere.
The restaurant's big foul was the half portion of fries, which we canceled. They said it was no problem at all if we didn't want it, but then they brought it to us. We were ready to give it back to them but in the end we didn't just because we could hear the staff fighting and shouting at each other because of the mistake. We felt uncomfortable and kept the plate... but that didn't stop them from charging us in the end...3 euros... We found it very cheap and unprofessional from the restaurant. Definitely we didn't enjoy the fight among them.
Last but not least: we got the 100 ml of the house tsipouro which we do not recommend. The bottled ones were 200ml and we didn't want to drink that much. We found its taste strange from the very first sip. It ended up giving us headaches and not only...
From the moment we paid and stood up, my husband was not feeling well. We suspect the tsipouro, but might also be the sea food in the pasta. He ended up spending his evening in the toilet.
Overall the restaurant is overrated and not...

Let me tell you something straight: if you’re in Symi and don’t make your way up to Kali Strata, are you even living? This place isn’t just a restaurant — it’s a moment. A vibe. A chapter in your Greek island story that you’ll be dreaming about long after the sunburn fades.
First off, the view? Unreal. Like a postcard had a baby with a dream. You're dining above the rooftops, with the harbor stretching out like a velvet painting at golden hour.
But the real magic is on the plate. The feta tempura? Crispy clouds of heaven — light, golden, with a melt-in-your-mouth softness that hits like a culinary mic drop. The fried squid? Fresh, tender, perfectly seasoned — not rubbery like you find in tourist traps. This is squid with soul. And don’t even get me started on the meatballs. Juicy, rich, packed with flavor and heart. These are yiayia-approved meatballs, no doubt.
The staff? Warm, welcoming, and genuinely kind — the kind of people who make you feel like you're home, even when you’re halfway across the world.
Bottom line? Kali Strata isn’t just a meal. It’s a love letter to Greek cuisine, served with heart, view, and a side of unforgettable. Go. Eat....
Read moreIf you overcome the fact of going up at least 500 steps and you reach the place sweating then you ll be seated in a courtyard full of fans hanging from the ceiling. If you go in the evening, there is nothing much to admire. We were received in a rather lukewarm manner and the service although simple was utterly unprofessional, left to teenagers and thus non-experienced staff. As for the food itself, I am afraid it was just like the service: without character and ultimately disappointing; it lacked the right intensity and elevation of flavours. The only standout was the Symi shrimp, nicely fried and sweet. But for the rest, the squid was under-seasoned, the zucchini balls were ok but the“avgolemono” sauce, watered down and nothing to do with the real deal. And then the main, the seafood pasta, flat with “fruit de mer” counted, in a “bisque jus” with no intensity and a lemon juice undertone, overpowering the whole dish. Btw, this is one of the few seafood restaurants, were no wet towels are offered for you to clean your hands after eating seashells. So, for a place that wants to be called a “restaurant” and not a “tavern”, this dinner was expensive and that’s is why I wouldn’t even bother...
