Yesterday evening, my partner and I visited this Taverna. My partner is a vegetarian and has been for the last 40 years because of her medical condition. I ordered for her, vegetarian moussaka. She started eating it only to find meat in the moussaka. I bought this to the attention of the owner Stratos and his wife Anna. There was no apology, just a look of bewilderment. My partner was offered something else, but refused because she was feeling a little nauseated. When it came to paying the bill, Stratos charged me for the traditional moussaka together with my meal and carafe of wine. I complained, not wishing to pay the full bill. He insisted that we should pay for the moussaka despite them serving the wrong item. I should have refused to pay, but I did after Stratos knocked €5 off the bill. I have been coming to Symi since 1987. Have known the family for many years and eaten there more times than I can ever remember. Generally, I’ve always been happy with the food presented to me. The Taverna is probably one of the busiest in Symi and has a good reputation. My point is, Stratos is more interested in money than his customers. I also complained to Nikos, his son, who I believe will be taking the business over. He also showed no interest in my complaint. I told them both what I thought, and told them that I would not eat in this establishment ever again. I estimate during our four week holiday here in Symi, I would’ve spent between €600 and €700 in this particular establishment. Their loss. Not mine. You do not have to pay for your food in Greece if you are not presented with a bill or receipt; in fact, it is illegal for a business to provide food or services without issuing a receipt, I did not get one. In hindsight, I should’ve refused to pay for everything and if this was disputed, I should’ve taken my complaint to the police. In fact, I’m still considering going to the police. I have two separate witnesses for my case. So if you eat there, and have a complaint, don’t expect any sympathy...
Read moreFrom the very first minute, you feel the cozy and warm atmosphere. A pleasant tavern, unobtrusive music—all this creates the perfect backdrop for the evening. But the most important thing is the cuisine! We experienced a real culinary delight. We ordered seafood. The quality of the ingredients was top-notch, and the taste was simply incredible! Special thanks for the impeccable service. Our waitress, unfortunately I don't know her name, was incredibly attentive. She helped us choose wine, answered all our questions about the dishes in detail, and was very efficient. You can feel her sincere care for the guests. I recommend it to anyone who appreciates not only exquisite cuisine, but also a comfortable atmosphere with attentive staff. We will...
Read moreReally sad….
We watched the owner shouting at this poor waiter trying her best to be a great hostess, constantly he would shout her name while she’s with customers.
She was working so hard that when I got a chance I asked her if I tip does it go to you or the owner and she said him, we don’t get any tips….
Food wasn’t very good either, the reviews are not accurate for this place, I would not eat there again.
Also when I wanted to pay I asked the waiter and she was so busy so I asked the first person I could see (the owner) and he then shouted her down without even dealing with it himself…
Spend your money on restaurants that care...
