I can honestly say I don't know where to begin when it comes to reviewing this restaurant. There are so many positives I will try and get over an understanding of them all. My wife and I were staying in Perissa which is a good few miles away from here. We hopped onto the local "FUNTRAIN" close to out hotel. This takes you to Vlyhada Marina. Atop the hill is the Taverna Dimitris. From the bottom of the hill I could see a grey haired man waving to me and pointing to a set of steps. He had correctly guessed I was in need of a cold beer. It was a very warm day so I was very pleasantly surprised to find a lovely breeze just helped complement the view when we got up there.
The view over the marina is stunning. Watching the pleasure boats and fishing boats going out and returning. The beer was cold and welcoming in frozen glasses. We were offered menus but were not interested in eating at this point. After sipping the beer and watching a fishing boat return and unload, this opinion soon changed when we watched the small truck come up the hill and stop to give the restaurant first pick from the days catch.
Before long we had the menus back in our hands, wine was ordered and choices being made. We were not to be disappointed.
We ordered the Grilled large Prawns and the Grilled Octopus with a Greek Salad. The prawns were cooked just right. All the way through without being burnt or dried out. The Octopus was so tender that it was more like Monkfish than Octopus. The house wine was dry and traditionally Greek tasting. Service was super attentive and friendly. Everything was very clean even the facilities given that we were off the beaten track. At the end we paid our very modest bill. I was given a good luck charm to take home and we hopped back on the train to Perissa but this time at the top of the hill.
One of our best meals of our stay. Big thank you to Dimitris and his family for giving us such a...
Read moreI had the pleasure of dining at Dimitriâs Tavern in Vlichada, and I have to say, itâs truly a gem of a place. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and excellent service, setting the tone for a memorable meal. The staff was friendly, attentive, and efficientâensuring everything was just right without being overbearing.
The food? Absolutely fantastic! Every dish was bursting with flavor, and you could taste how fresh everything was. The ingredients were clearly of the highest quality, and each plate was a perfect balance of deliciousness. Whether it was seafood, meat, or the traditional Greek sides, everything was prepared to perfection. The portions were generous, and the flavors were incredibly well-balancedâeach bite left you wanting more.
The service was also remarkably fast, which is not always easy to find, especially in busy tourist spots. The pace of the meal was just right, allowing us to savor each course without feeling rushed.
If you find yourself in Vlichada, donât miss the chance to visit Dimitriâs Tavern. Itâs a true culinary delight that offers a taste of authentic Greek cuisine in a charming, welcoming setting....
Read moreWe dined here (lunch) - a very touristy place with an almost hustler type of owner (could also be mistaken for friendly, I suppose). Anyway - the food, service and atmosphere were all mediocre - typically touristy and nothing really to write home about - we have been to far, far, far better and genuinely authentic, non-touristy and "real" Greek tavernas on all of our trips before ! But, hold on to your seats - the one that really made us fall of our chairs was his price - or, shall we say, "over-price" - far, far, far TOO much for our meal and far too much for a, for any restaurant of THIS caliber anywhere - in fact, we go to so-called fish restaurants in Italy that are far, far more reasonably (sensibly) priced - our meal did NOT even include any drinks - his "bill" was plain and purely outrageous - nothing short of pure daylight, tourist robbery and price gouging - I would well steer clear of this place unless you have money to burn and a very fat wallet - save yourself the sticker shock and eat somewhere else ! Our family will NEVER be setting foot in this diaphanous, ultra-smooth talking and touristy, price-jacking-up establishment...
