1 and a half years open... And I discover this place now??? I fundamentally have no complaints whatsoever, quite the contrary.. Such a gem in the heart of Voula. Who knew such quality and so many flavors are available in such a cozy venue.. I am a big oyster fan (Being French.. used to Fine de Claires during winters in france) and they have size 3's available here at extremely affordable prices! (12.90eur for 4) same price as Paris (~20eur for 6) Absolutely delicious! We came for a light dinner, and had:
Octopus with fava and caramelized onions Smooth clams Sea urchins Rizotto with artichioke and shrimp Traditional pasta with crayfish
And to accompany this a light malbec (Donna Silvina) which went perfectly with the seafood (we do not like white wines..)
Each bite was a medley of layered flavors.. Not mixed into a puree which unfortunately dominates most restaurants... but separate, complex and complimenting... something I am not used to in greece. The rizotto in particular was an explosion on the pallet with peppercorn balancing the acidity of the pickled artichoke, and the rice itself was seasoned very well and had a light hint of shrimp.
We were advised of the items on the menu that were not available due to the lack of the fish in question, a testament to the fact that everything served is fresh from the sea and not frozen. (This was of no consequence anyways since there were only one or two fish which were not available).
Unfortunately we did not try a complete fish.. but this is something we will DEFINITELY come back to try! Perhaps when the weather is warmer and we can have this lunch/dinner outside while enjoying the Greek sun!
Due to this restaurant's young age, I pray to whatever Gods remain that they do not degrade, and keep this level of quality and service.
The waiter was very well versed in the off menu items, and very helpful in aiding for choices.
I would definitely recommend this place to anyone...
Their menu is visible online on their website, so be aware for anyone that does not like seafood, this is a seafood restaurant, so dont expect a steak and french fries.. and thank god for that!
Without exaggerating, Akrovoli merits the 5 star rating, and deserves recognition for its complexity and depth of flavors, a range of choices which hits the sweet spot of not too many dishes to choose from, whilst still retaining enough variety for the picky eater, and a professional service matching the quality of its dishes!
(P.S. Akrovoli cooperates with a very well known and amazing wine delicatessen in the same neighborhood, which further advances their drink list to accompany their foods.....
Read moreExpect the unexpected! If you need a break-away of the typical taverna food, then you should come here. My eye was attracted by pictures of oysters. When I finally got to the restaurant I was pleasantly surprised. Nice easy going interior, friendly service and very attentive. The food was absolutely mouthwatering, here my score below: Oysters 10/10 Scallops 8/10 Shrimp carpaccio 10/10 Smoked eel 10/10 Grilled octopus 8/10 Grilled octopus with fava 9/10 Sea urchin pasta with smoked salmon 5,5/10 I think this dish is not right for two reason, sea urchins have a very distinct flavor, kind-off like the Tsar of the sea kind of flavor and mixing it with smoked salmon is a pity as it over takes. The smoked salmon was cooked with the sauce which becomes very dry.
All in all a great experience, I would have given 5 stars if the pasta would have met my expectations. Really enjoyed the experience and have added a new place on my...
Read moreThey say third time is a charm , therefore we had to visit the place times three. A very cozy space with nice and friendly staff. We’ve tried almost all the starters and most of the main plates … and to be honest we were surprised from both, presentation and quality of the products. I would definitely recommend this place as it stands correct in terms of value and quality. Our next mission is to pre order a fish of our favor and have it grilled .We really look forward to that and thrilled to meet the chef. Overall it’s a pleasant surprise around the area … if you are picky and willing to try some real food… you know...
