We made a reservation at the restaurant a few days ago. At no point were we informed that the menu was more like a regular restaurant rather than a Michelin-star chef’s restaurant. When we arrived, we were told, “That’s just how it is off-season.”
In my opinion, they should have mentioned this at the time of booking and again when they called to confirm my reservation. I drove 40 minutes to get to the restaurant, so I decided to stay.
Right at the beginning, I ordered a glass of rosé wine. Within a few minutes, I had an allergic reaction—one side of my face turned red. I showed the waiter what was happening and asked to replace the wine. He took the glass and, at my request, brought me a different one. I didn’t drink that either, as by then, my entire face had turned red.
For the first course, we ordered foie gras. It was beautifully presented, but there was much more jam than foie gras—there was barely any foie gras at all. The brioche served with it was bland and not tasty.
For the main course, I ordered mandarin risotto, which was overly salty, accompanied by an osso buco made from fish that was extremely bland.
The only dish that was actually good was the dessert—a beautifully presented and delicious apple cake.
All the dishes contained mandarins, making the meal repetitive and unappetizing.
The bill was extremely high. I was charged for all the glasses of wine, including the one I returned due to my allergic reaction. I believe they should have at least waived one glass or, at the very least, informed me in advance that I would still be charged despite the reaction.
Overall, a disappointing experience. I have dined at many Michelin-star restaurants before, but this time, I was truly...
Read moreOne of the worst fine dining experiences I have ever had. The chef tries to put a contemporary fine dining experience with a Cretan twist which was a total failure. We had the 9 course meal. The dakos was an embarrassment, the escargot was terrible and the cretan pilafi shouldn't be named pilafi but just plain crab risotto. The loukoumades has horrible as well. Coming from a cretan backround and knowing the cuisine very well, the food they put out was nothing but an embarrassment to the cretan cuisine. Creating a fine dining contemporary Greek cuisine is very hard and only a few have succeeded (perfect example Varoulko). The space was nice but very hot and humid. The service was not par for a Michelin star four seasons restaurant. Our waiter was excellent but the the rest of the staff sub par. We had to signal multiple times to fill our glasses with wine, by the end of the night I was pouring my own wine. The manager and other staff(the guy who was suppose to fill our wine) was at the table behind flirting with two women for over 30 minutes, became a little tiring since they were right next to us. The worst was hearing the staff trying explain to its patrons the connection of each dish to Crete, it made me cry. At the end of the night they gave a pastry and told us to eat tomorrow morning with breakfast. I had it the next day in the morning and it was horrible. It had some sort of creme or liquorice that was stuck on the top of my mouth for hours, it wouldn't come off. A horrible way to start the day. I am shocked this place has a...
Read moreVisiting Pelagos at the Four Seasons Astir Palace Hotel, I was looking forward to an exquisite dining experience. The setting was gorgeous, with well-kept gardens and stunning views, matched by friendly staff. As someone familiar with Michelin standards and as an entrepreneur, I understand that not every day can be perfect, and unfortunately, this visit wasn't their best.
The menu at Pelagos looked great on paper, with dishes that sounded innovative and appetizing, similar to what you'd expect in a Michelin-starred restaurant. However, the actual meals didn't quite hit the mark. Although they had beautiful presentation, they lacked the exceptional flavor that set apart truly high-end dining experiences.
The service had its ups and downs; our wine glasses were empty at times, which was surprising since it was just us at the restaurant. There were a few mix-ups too, like water accidentally spilt on me by the staff and mix up over bread and butter when they changed our table due to the spilt water. A more significant issue was with the timing of our meals. The staff seemed to scramble to correct a mistake with our order, and when we inquired, the explanations felt a bit evasive. The manager came to our table after this hiccup to ask us how things were. We inquired again but were disappointed by the manager's excuse. I wish they had just been honest.
Despite these issues, I believe Pelagos has great potential. Perhaps it was just an off day, but the experience didn't meet the high standards I've come to expect from...
