Johnny's Restaurant & Bar — Restaurant in Skiathos Municipality

Before arrival to Skiathos, I have read many excellent reviews about this place and seen captivating photos at the websites. But. when we (my wife, 5-year old daughter and myself) spent our first evening in Skiathos, at the Johnny's, we discovered a true paradise! The atmosphere of the place, its outlook, lemon/olive/oleander/fig/palm trees surrounding the terrace, discrete decoration without a single piece of kitsch (unfortunately so common to many tavernas across Greece), down-beat jazzy modern Greek music, fascinating food... Nevertheless, the most fascinating of all were the people that run this amazing place; Johnny (who is present all the time and watchfully takes care of all the guests), his daughter-in-law Mary (with a stunning social/emotional intelligence, and original style, who seems to be teleported from a cosy New York club/restaurant), Johnny's wife Maria (who runs the kitchen), Polydectes (Johnny's son and Mary's fiancé (who is deputy chef, in the kitchen) and very kind and polite waiter Ioannis. All this leaves such a powerful impression on all the visitors. We were looking forward every day to going to Johnny's, in the evening, because we knew it would be another genuine experience and a festival of feeling good. In last 30-ish years, I travelled a lot across Greece, but I did not find such an authentic, well-managed, perfectly designed and pleasant taverna like Johnny's. If you are on Skitahos, this place is a must to enjoy... and...

It is definitely rare that I give a restaurant a 5 star rating but without a doubt Johnny’s deserve it! My husband had the lamb and said it was probably the best lamb he ever had. And I had the moussaka and I will probably never be able to eat it again unless I’ll return to Skiathos. I just can’t see how any other place could ever top this! (Our 10 month daughter also tried both and clapped her hands of joy) Balanced, beautiful, creative, delicious comfort food.

And the staff.. Extremely service minded (in a really genuine way) and always with a big smile. You kind of want to become their friend actually.

The atmosphere and ambiance was also right up my alley! Cozy and fresh and you just felt right at home.

Like I said, it’s rare that I feel like a restaurant deserves a 5 star rating. Both me and my husband are very experienced restaurant eaters but we were thrilled after our dinner. We will for sure recommend everyone we know coming to Skiathos to book a table here.

Superb in every way!

This has to be the most memorable dinner on all the island.

I booked a table in advance, and enjoyed some exquisite tzatziki and smoked aubergine to start with . The bread was grilled and wonderfully seasoned - I had to take care not to polish it off before the starters arrived.

For mains we both opted for the lamb chops, one with baked potatoes and the other with fries. My word - mouthwateringly delicious and we couldn't even finish all the fries which were so fresh and crunchy. I have to say, the Greeks really know how to make splendid fried potatoes - must be the olive oil they use

Washed the down with some lovely Greek cider and Sprite from those cute glass bottles.

Sadly was too full to go for dessert.

The menu is a little limited - no pork souvlaki or grilled fish, otherwise I would have come back like a shot. But I'm sure everything on the menu is delicious.
