It was meal of highs and lows.
We arrived 7.30pm, ordered promptly. After 50minutes waiting we nudged to ask if our food was coming. It turns out our order hadn't gone through the till so once corrected had our starters around 8.40pm.
These things happen, the mistake was owned up to and we were then given some wine on the house later on.
The starters also happened to be mind blowingly good. We greedily ordered 3 starters, the octopus, scallops and beef tartare - all were wonderful and we were content at this point.
It then felt like a long wait for the mains. We ordered 2 different parpardelle pasta dishes. Both had delicious sauces however I hate to say it - but the pasta was very much overcooked and not al dente. I'm sure the chefs can work out what went wrong there and they should look out to see if other customers say anything/do some quality control before food leaves the kitchen.
Had we not waited so long I'd have sent it back but as things stood it was a 2hour+ meal.
So on the whole dissapointing with flashes of brilliance.
I think the staff were friendly and pleasant, but we were sat in the middle of the restaurant without food for 50 minutes and I think this could have been avoided by being more active with the guests. I do wonder if the encyclopedic menu contributed to issues with the pasta also - it must be hard to manage quality with so many...
Read moreUnfortunately, bang average and had much higher expectations before going. Aside from the young waiter who we felt sorry for, as he was extremely polite and clearly trying to do well in possibly his first job, but completely hamstrung by the setup there. Over 35 minutes to order a drink after we had arrived along with really slow service for placing the food order (which the young waiter didn’t appear allowed to do), receiving our starters and main courses and also paying the bill! We were expecting some pretty special food but sadly all of it was pretty average. In particular we were disappointed with the pizzas which three of our party of four had. The problem Otto will have is that Rosso make amazing infinitely superior pizzas and there are also some much better Italian restaurants on the island. I think it is a place most people will eat at once and then not go again unless things change significantly. A disappointment and especially at £80 per couple for starters, mains and a drink each. I cannot recommend it unfortunately when Guernsey has such a large number of better...
Read moreI had a lovely lunch here for two having the chacutterie platter for 2 and desserts/coffee.which was all very nice. However my gripe is restaurants that offer cocktails and don't know how to make cocktails properly. I ordered a basil smash (a modern classic shaken cocktail); however, this was a bit of a joke. Although it probably had all the right ingredients, they hadn't bothered to muddle or shake the cocktail so I ended up with a clear drink with a bunch of basil leaves thrown in , whereas the proper cocktail would have been green. This is another example where restaurants try to cater for cocktails and are clueless on what a proper cocktail is. Why bother, just keep to drinks you know how to...
