Myself, my husband and my parents visited Guernsey on Thursday 27th June for a day trip from the UK, my husband and mother are disabled and both use wheelchairs. I wanted to express how overwhelmed we were when we stopped for lunch at the Thomas De La Rue.
We noticed that not many places along the front have disabled access or adequate layouts for disabled persons. We came across the back entrance to the Thomas De La Rue which had a few steps, this meant getting out of wheelchairs, and carrying them in to use the steps. As we approached a kind man made us aware of your front entrance which had a ramp.
We were made to feel extremely welcome by Josh, who moved chairs to enable us to be seated accommodating the wheelchairs. We ordered drinks and noticed a table outside was being vacated. We asked Josh if we could possibly move to the outside once the table was cleared. He explained that he would serve our drinks, and once the table was free would clear and clean it for us, which he did. He took our drinks and helped us to move outside.
We placed our food orders and the food arrived very quickly. It was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. Josh attended our table asking if everything was ok with the food, and asked if we wanted more drinks. During our time at the Thomas De La Rue, Josh really did go above and beyond to ensure we were happy guests. We noticed that he approached all guests in the same manner which was very impressive.
Our overall impression is that Josh is a real credit to you, a very hardworking, polite, respectful and helpful young man. A true asset to have on board where customer service is concerned. He really did make our lunchtime an extremely enjoyable experience and we couldnāt thank him enough for his hospitality.
We would appreciate it if you could pass on our extreme gratitude to Josh, we acknowledged him when leaving, but due to the amount of customers present, and how busy he was felt it inappropriate to disrupt his work to thank him properly.
My parents frequently visit Guernsey, and this was a first visit for myself and my husband. A first visit for all of us to Thomas De La Rue and a truly enjoyable one. We will definitely be having lunch here again in future.
Congratulations on your level of diversity and inclusion, as a family with many of whom are disabled we notice this is something that is becoming more established, but also very lacking in some areas. Thomas De La Rue is very well established and Josh is a true asset to you. ...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFelt i had to give a review here, because unfortunately we made the mistake of going here based on Google reviews. Was only here for one lunch with a friend. Both had the chicken caesar salad. Had 4 thighs of chicken just dumped on top of a caesar salad, never saw anything like it. Extremely off putting, a little bit of shredded breast would be far more appetising We decided the menu was probably too big to do anything well. Asked for a glass of dry Rose and it was like Ribena. The waiter was very friendly and helpful, although he had told us all of the food on the menu was fabulous. 4 tourists came in and sat at a table next to us to only get drinks. They were told they could get drinks no problem, but would have to go to bar, wouldn't serve them at yhd table. They looked absolutely shocked. Coming from Ireland, we are so used to good food and good service, that we take it for granted, but seeing the absolute lack of interest in having returning customers or decent food was quite a shock. Maybe other menu items actually are fabulous, we only tried the caesar salad. I somehow doubt it
Edited to reply to owner- Chicken thigh is tastier than breast, but 4 cheap chicken thighs plonked on top of a salad is lazy, un appetising, unimaginative and practically unheard of. I asked for dry rosƩ and received a very sweet rose. It was replaced by the waiter by a less sweet, but not dry, rosƩ. The other table of tourists were very taken aback by their treatment and we overheard them talking about the bad service for about half an hour afterwards. I'm not surprised that you've doubled down, instead of taking the feedback in good grace, it's just confirmed that I wasn't mistaken about my impression...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThere is so many reasons I suggest a visit here to put this place in anyoneās visit to the island. Letās start with the name and history with the islands currency. The location. Itās in the heart of St Peter Port meters away from taxi rank, bus stop just outside, end of high street and facing the harbour! Inside/ outside dining. Friendly pub feel upstairs with a hustle bustle noise around, or downstairs in the front room thatās where you will feel. A home from home. And the food! Real portions, presented well, tasting great, itās consistently well. I can honestly say in 12 years Iāve had bad food here. As a venue itās great! Parties we return time and time again. Hospitality, the staffing standards are high, friendly, well trained, Mandy is admired across the island for her being a known committed and passionate manageress. The pub has something for everyone! And itās the little things isnāt it⦠like a nice wine glass in hand holding that wine. I see lots of tourists visit and the team do their best on languages they are so welcoming! And to me too! I highly recommend this established business and I bet you will...
