Fantastic food, best I had on the island! I stayed right next door to the restaurant (which is located on the ground floor of a large blue apartment building—you ARE in the right place!) and got to know the lovely couple who own & run the operation. Chef Ali is an exceptional cook! I loved the Wahu Marinara so much that I came back the next day to order it again—and I never do that!
The owners told me they aren’t the most up-to-date with technology (ie no credit card readers, so CASH only!) and their hours have been incorrectly listed online for ages so I just helped them fix this: they are open every day EXCEPT TUESDAY, starting at 5:30pm, but they do have some flexibility with hours if your group contacts them ahead of time. I’ve included a photo of the menu from today but their menu changes every few days based on what’s locally fresh and available (which is awesome)! Food is delicious, locally supplied, beautifully presented, and a great...
Read moreYes, yet another (well deserved ) 5* review. First, I've found food on Roatan to be consistently very good, from street tacos to baleadas at Celus to local carib/seafood restaurants. some of that is personal bias as to types of food/cultural prefs, some is locally accessed ingredients happen to be my faves (Camerones to specific fruits and veggies), but also of course there's an obvious baseline of quality cooking across Roatan. However, as far as craft and detail and a focus on fresh local ingredients (with some strategic importing as Stowaway has both an additional Spanish and French influence), Stowaway is unparalleled on the island and would do just as well nestled in any small neighborhood in Brooklyn/NYC. I'm still thinking about my meal from 2 days ago and will be back this week.
the proprietors (also chef and waiter- Paul and crew) were warm and fantastically attentive and personable. has to...
Read moreWe visited Roatan last May. We stayed at CocoLobo Vacation Rentals and they referred us to Paul’s place. It was one of the best meals we have had on any dive vacation. The food was fresh, incredibly tasteful and beautifully displayed. We also loved the drinks!!!! Not only was the food amazing, so was Paul. He is utterly hilarious and tells the most amazing stories. Great conversationalist and witty! We loved it so much, we returned a second night. We work at a local dive shop back home part time. We shared our experience with them as they lead trips to Roatan yearly; as well as family, friends and students alike. Five star!
We had a variety of eaters (non seafood, picky, vegetarian) and everyone found something to eat and LOVED their meal. There were 4 of us - we got drinks, appetizers, entrees and desserts.
You should make a reservation and it’s cash only. Great place for a...
