This is difficult to write, but cannot go unsaid. Made a reservation for 2 for Valentine’s dinner. Before arriving I found out was only small, fixed menu designed for Valentine’s Day but rather than cancel, they generously offered to substitute to accommodate my allergy. Positives: Lovely setting and very kind servers. Apps were quick to arrive and very good. Unfortunately, my entree ($52 USD) was inedible. Billed as slow cooked tenderloin (surf & turf) and it was agreed that the surf would be substituted for a fish fillet. Attempted to cut into the long slim sliver of “fish” but could not. It was like a scrap piece of Wahoo bone and skin grilled hard—completely inedible. Informed server, who said it would be a few mins but would bring replacement. This would’ve been over looked had the beef they served me actually been OK. The beef was so tough, I almost choked on the first bite. Was not overcooked, just poor quality beef and in no way tender—seemed more like tough sirloin. I struggled with this beef as my husband finished his main. We were still waiting for my “replacement” fish to come out with no word from server. When i finally saw my server again, i told her it was too late now to forget it. When the bill came, they offered to comp me a drink, which was even more insulting because I had told my server I couldn’t drink alcohol and was drinking a nonalcoholic beverage. I reminded her of this when she offered and she then offered me another non alcoholic spritzer (as we are staring at my still 1/2 full glass of the first one). Sorry but more fruit soda does not make up for a poor, inedible entree. Received full bill including added tip, $146 USD. As we are leaving restaurant, approached and asked again about meal. I was honest, and apologies were given again with offer for free apps some other time. Unfortunately, we could never go back. I have never had a bad meal before in Roatan, and certainly not one we paid so much for. Unfathomable that this would even be an issue at this price point, but more disappointing that no one could seem to resolve it by simply providing a real dinner. Too many restaurants in Roatan...
Read moreThis is a difficult review. There were some good points. The ceviche was quite tasty and the lobster arancini was pretty decent. The Pinot Noir bottle was also solid. The mains were pretty much flat out terrible though. Pork loin was tough to the point of being completely inedible. Tooth grinding jaw cramping tough. "Cilantro" salad had not a hint of cilantro... Perhaps some old dried coriander powder in the thick tasteless dressing ... And ... Smoked Gouda as the cheese for the cilantro salad with shrimp? Huh? Nope. Lychee martini tasted like disgusting tepid canned lychee juice, is that a thing? Service was awkward at best and unwelcoming at worst. For the husk of pork jerky we were "generously" comped two small bottles of local purified water. Sad end to a week trip to Roatan that had been good food-wise...
Read moreThis was our favorite meal in all the places we tried in both West Bay and West End. The atmosphere is excellent, very upscale for Roatan. The food quality was worthy of a Michelin star. The menu seemed fairly inspired by the local culture, but the real standout was execution of the dishes! I have nothing to complain about, even the service was above average and the didn’t charge for water, which is common here. I had the lobster and scallops risotto and my wife had the fillet. The cilantro salad was very unique and paired well...
