Villa Bagatelle — Restaurant in Budapest

Many times I visited the place, in the morning, at lunch time and in the afternoon. I was always satisfied, the quality of food, service and atmosphere were always stable. Yesterday I was there at lunch time, ordered a lunch menu (Fish&salad). To my surprise the fish was raw, the salad was simpler than it was promised on the menu. It was obvious that the fish was made from frozen product. When I shared this fact with the waitress, she took my meal back, and I had to wait another 20 minutes till they served the same plate again (for a 5 minutes meal???). Routine question at the cashier: "Everything was fine?"-said NO, but service fee was still charged, no extras were offered....I left with a kind of bitter taste and I have reconsider to meet my friends somewhere...

If you are a fan of stadium food and miniscule portions, this is the place! You also need at least half an hour, to get such a meal. Don't forget to ask for a bread on the side, otherwise you won't be given any.

Based on other opinions, something went terribly wrong, as we weren't even given plates. Were we scammed because we are tourists? High possibility, as it isn't something you'd expect even for half of 9500ft we've paid. That's not a language barrier, that's being predatory and unaccommodating. I've eaten in many countries and never had such an issue. It's a shame, because the place has a cosy and spacious garden, inside looks nice as well, even the baked goods looks promising. Elegant setting but the place is going downhill. For our lunch the service was terrible. The waiters were standing inside talking together and we waited and waited, first to order and then to order coffee. We had to go inside twice to ask them to come out and take our order and they came unsmlingly, as though they were doing us a favor. No one greeted us when we arrived or when we left. The side salad to my avocado toast had clumps of black rotted lettuce in it and the avocado on the toast was brown, indicating it had been prepared the day before or earlier.
