Park Vendéglő – A True Buda Gem!
Park Vendéglő is the perfect blend of everything I love about Budapest dining. Warm, unpretentious, and full of character.
The atmosphere is superb: not too posh, yet still ideal for a date night. It has that unmistakable Buda civic charm: relaxed, friendly, and authentic, making it just as welcoming for families as for couples. It’s clearly a favourite among locals, but it’s also exactly where I’d send any visitor who wants to see how real Budapesti spend a summer evening.
On our visit, the owner himself served us, and his friendliness and easy-going approach instantly set the tone for the evening. The menu is refreshingly simple, no overwhelming list, just a small, confident selection that makes choosing a pleasure.
The food? Absolutely outstanding. The catfish and the “Fledermaus” steak were to die for, bursting with Hungarian flavours but without the overhyped, touristy twists you see elsewhere. We ended with a light and lovely túrógombóc, the perfect closing note.
We are both locals and tourists in a way — originally from this neighbourhood but living abroad for the past 15 years and this place captured everything we missed about dining in Budapest. We’ll be regulars whenever we’re...
Read moreWe love this place, good traditional taste plus always interesting chefs offers in every month. The best starter is a good meat soup with marrow bone and toast. We used to share it for two because quite a portion for one, almost a main course. Last time I had grilled chicken legs with wasabi mashed potatoes and sweet chili dip and weissbier (from tap). During lunch time it is pretty well packed, a family and dog friendly restaurant. We used to pop in the afternoon, if they are crowded we take a walk in the 'Chestnuts' park nearby, and they reserve a table when it gets free. On this spot there has been a restaurant since more than 100 years, with different styles and name, we are occasional guests since 10+ years. The staff is friendly and they do look for you and still not bothering. Main courses mostly under 10 EUR, a nice lunch for two is under 30 EUR. Can pay with cash or card, service fee is included. It is possible to park nearby with a car during the weekend, rest get here with public...
Read moreI have just eaten here with a couple of friends. It has been a very good evening, fine meals and excellent wines. Service was a touch, but only a touch, slow, considering the place was about 20% utilized. I do recommend the chocolate soufflé, it was magnificent. Parking is not easy if you come by car, but the place is well served by public transport. The only downside is the price. The establishment is a bit overpriced in terms of the beverages. Four people, 15.000 HUF (EUR 53) for the meals and 15.000 HUF (EUR 53) for the wine, spirits and water. And we were on the cheap side with the wines and spirits. It would not have been hard to double the amount if we did not buy the low-end of the wine card. The food was okay, 4500 for a good steak is acceptable, although the waiter "forgot" to ask how would I like it. I have forgiven them since it...
