We came to Selfoss all the way from Turkey. It was our second night, and we had eaten mostly our sandwiches that came all the way from Turkey as well (because every travel guide was shouting out that food at Iceland is expensive) 😄. After 2 days of tiresome but amazing trips we were exhausted and wanted to try local food for a change (and we needed some proteins 🙃). I don't give compliments easy but I can say that not trying this restaurant is a crime. I mean it, just do yourself a favor and try a meal here, you won't regret it. Actually you will quite enjoy it because everything we tasted was fabolous. We tried trout, spicy chicken burger and milfoy with vanilla cream and berries. The trout was extraordinarily fresh and delicious from any other trout that I had tasted during my life, so I asked our master chef about the source and he said it was from the river. The chicken burger was also the best in its own category. And the milföy...gosh I can eat it infinitely, the taste was out of this world; it was so delicious that after the last morsel I crave for more, more and more. Each recipe was unique, well thought and well executed. Culinary is an art, utmost respect to those who perfected it. Compliments to the Chef, our dinner was bliss. I felt the Icelandic Gastronomy to my bones. Instead of eating more sandwiches that we brought all the way, we gave ourselves a treat and booked breakfast for the next morning; because it is worth every penny.

Came here for dinner twice during a 1-month trip to Iceland. Had lovely chats with both the owner and staff. Dinner was impeccable both times: The spaghetti arrabbiata was beautifully spiced and a great change of pace from the traditional Icelandic palate. Tasted of fresh tomatoes, garlic, red peppers, olive oil, parsley. The dry-aged steak was a quality cut perfectly cooked at medium rare, with roasted broccoli, polenta, and salsa verde on the side, which tasted sort of like a cross between chimichurri and pesto. It was so satisfying especially because we had been missing a GOOD steak on this trip. The strawberry ice cream is made of strawberries, eggs, cream, topped with freeze-dried strawberries and toasted coconut flakes. It was a dense and silky consistency, without ice crystals (like gelato). Strawberry is my favorite ice cream flavor and this was a good one. Not to mention the fruity cocktails! Our favorite was the white sangria. DO consider coming here if you'd like to get away from the more touristy spots. The menu is smaller, but it's done very well. Out of our month-long trip, we had about 3-4 favorite dinners and this was one of them. It's definitely bookmarked for any future Iceland trip! :)

We decided to try a local restaurant in Selfoss and I felt like I’d won the lottery. Lilly & Julia’s is a beautiful place to dine. The decor was thoughtfully chosen. You can peruse the owner’s personal cookbook library and look at his vinyl collection while you wait for your food. We chose the chef’s menu tasting. It’s a five course meal and appropriately priced. The chef just happens to be the owner and he came and chatted with us at our table. The service was excellent and the timing of each dish was perfect. I highly recommend the trout and be assured you should try to eat the skin as it’s perfectly cooked. It has a light crunchy texture and pairs perfectly with the veggies. Both my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our dining experience.

This was one of the best dining experiences we had on our trip through Iceland! We ate here twice during our stay, and both times were fantastic. My wife loved the trout so much that she ordered it both times. I tried the chicken tandoori on our first visit, and it was amazing, but the dry-aged ribeye I had on the second visit might be the best steak I've ever had in my entire life. If you're in Selfoss, Iceland, you need to check this place out. There are plenty of great spots to eat in Iceland, but we were so surprised to find one of the best chefs and a cozy little bistro right below our apartment. I can't recommend this place enough.

Really delicious food. We had the lamb chops, the rutabaga and the rye ice cream. We absolutely loved the lamb chops and ice cream. We were impressed at how tender and flavorful the lamb was. The ice cream was unique and tasted like toasted caramel and coffee. Incredible. The chef was also very accommodating and kind, he allowed us to dine when we came in very late at 8:50. We were obviously very worried that we could not find a place in Selfoss that could serve us dinner so late. He was reassuring and comforting when he allowed us to dine. Thank you again for the delicious food and the kind service!

Lilly and Julia was the best experience we had in Iceland for 5 days. I wish I could pack up 10 kgs of the raviolis and ship it home. The food pairings were super tastey and I was very intrigued at the flavors. I normally don’t eat fish but it was prepared so delectably. We chatted with the chef/owner and our server, Matt, after our meal and were given friendly recommendations for the rest of our stay. Overall 10/10 experience and recommend for anyone visiting Iceland! Less than an hour drive from Reykjavik!
