Found the place on TripAdvisor hoping for good local food. So we walked in and the kid working looked at us like we crapped in his cereal. Now, I understand that Americans are not welcomed sometimes, however I try to be respectful in other countries to help our poor reputation. Two tables were already seated and a wide open restaurant but the kid waiter sits us by the soup bar lol. I’m like ok, it’s post pandemic and I can deal with that. The kid waiter comes around after sitting there for twenty minutes asking us what we want. We asked for two local beers and my wife wasn’t ready to order because we were figuring out the menu. So, we asked about the menu and the waiter starts talking down to us. I suppose I should’ve taken Icelandic night classes before coming here. Then two more tables sit down and we’re immediately served drinks. We finally give him our order and again, totally ruined his day. So we sat for another ten minutes still no drinks. At this point other tables are being served and we’re just there empty handed. We decided to get up and go somewhere else. Americans avoid here. They don’t like us and unfortunately this beautiful island is wasted on them. I don’t usually rate businesses, but I couldn’t hold back especially since the place is highly rated. If your server is a young kid with glasses and tight jeans turnaround and go to the...
Read moreCalled in to order the Plokkfiskur as a take away. When I showed up to pick it up, first off the food wasn’t ready. I waited for 10 mins and asked for extra rúgbrauð with the fish.
Waiter charged me 3995 isk (it was 3500 4 days ago) and when I looked inside there was no rúgbrauð with the food. I asked why and she said it was because it was still frozen?
Anyway, I think it is a total ripoff to charge someone almost 4000 isk for an extremely small portion of the Plokkfisk with no rúgbrauð. Not to mention that the fish was cold and the waiter was rude. My next step was to just completely cancel my order and go home, she lowered the price to 3395 instead of 4000 and her attitude could have been much nicer.
When I ate here a few days ago, the portion was so big I could barely finish it and it came with enough rúgbrauð (which it should, can’t eat plokkfiskur without it in my opinion). Regardless, a few days ago the fish was delicious and that’s why I came back. I will not order a take away here again and service staff needs...
Read moreIt was fine. We figured we'd check out a local restaurant rather than just eating at the hotel. This place is the only other option in Siglufjörður outside of the high season as the fish and chip shop appears to close through the winter and spring.
Unfortunately, they only seems to do burgers and pizzas for the evening menu, which you can obviously find in pretty much any town or village throughout the country. If you're looking to sample any local fish, you are not going to find it here. They do have a couple of vegan options
We got burgers and they were very standard. Nothing particularly to complain about. They were fine. The service was prompt and the staff were friendly enough. It was just an expensive, average tasting burger. As the only option in the winter season, I guess at least...
