This incident happened to me once in Vizag, during a weekend tour with fifteen office colleagues. After visiting Kailashgiri, one of our teammates, Praveen, a South Indian, suggested Zeeshan, a well-known restaurant, for lunch. The place looked impressive and nearly full. After a short wait, we got a table.
Since most of us were from Odisha and unfamiliar with Telugu, Praveen took charge of communicating with the staff. We placed our order โ mostly biryani (veg and non-veg) with a few curries. Initially, the setup looked fine with decorated napkins, but soon the disappointment began.
Despite waiting over 20 minutes, we werenโt even served onions or salad, while a nearby table was. I politely asked the waiter several times, but he dismissed me saying it was a โSunday rush.โ Only after repeated insistence did they finally bring the onions โ something that should be standard for all tables without reminders.
When the biryani finally arrived, the waiters didnโt even serve it onto our plates. For a restaurant that markets itself as premium, thatโs basic etiquette missing. I requested proper service, but the staff appeared indifferent. Even something as simple as salt was missing from our table. Multiple requests went unanswered until one annoyed waiter reluctantly brought it after 10 minutes.
The biryani tasted average, nowhere near authentic Hyderabadi standards, and certainly not worth the wait. To make matters worse, those who had ordered curries never received them even after we were halfway through the meal. Frustrated, Praveen called the waiter and cancelled the curry orders, rightly pointing out that curries should accompany the main course, not follow it. Instead of apologizing, the staff argued and behaved rudely, showing zero empathy.
Even another local family nearby expressed similar frustration, confirming it wasnโt just us.
It made me realize how some restaurants focus only on ambience and branding, while forgetting the core of hospitality โ courtesy, attentiveness, and respect. Zeeshan may look appealing from outside, but our experience proved that appearances can...
ย ย ย Read moreRecently we were looking for dinner places with late dining options and we decided to try this one. Talking about the ambiance, they had multiple levels of seating available and we opted the seating on the top floor with air conditioning. The interior was pretty decent and they have dim/shady light setup with some large dine table options available for larger groups. However the tables are pretty close to each other and the place was crowded so do not expect much of a privacy here.
Talkig about the food, we tried their
'Chilly Fish' - perfectly cooked in the authentic style of indo-chinese sauces, soft and juicy. We really loved it and we asked it to be made extra spicy and it was awesome. And the quantity was pretty good for the price (Priced at Rs. 280/-)
'Devil Chicken' - another spicy starter which came with boneless chicken pieces tossed in some spicy sauces and cashews and it tasted pretty good. The quantity was decent for the price (Priced at Rs. 270/-)
'Zeeshan Spl Chicken Biryani' - this one came with their flavored biryani rice topped with some boneless chicken fry pieces and an egg and tasted average and their regular Dum Biryani was better in terms of the flavor I should say. The quantity was good and should be sufficient for two people (Priced at Rs. 300/-)
Overall the food was good and the service was pretty quick as well. It was a good experience in terms of food taste and I would definitely recommend to try out this place if you are not looking for a fine dine kind of place. It will get pretty crowded at peak times so be aware...
