Uruka is an ethnic Assamese restaurant specializing in various Assamese cuisine. Located along the Maniram Dewan (MRD) Road, near Silpukhuri branch of State Bank of India, the restaurant is not at all difficult to find. It is noticeable from normal traffic. Various modern of transport can be availed to reach this place. One can take hired car or an auto rickshaw or Uber or Ola cabs to reach here among others. The restaurant is located in the first floor and it is approachable via a not so narrow staircase. The entrance is quite fancy. There's this nice and well lit water fountain just outside the doors which are by the way automatic, that is, sensor driven. Upon entering through the doors you will be greeted by the welcoming staff who happen to be wearing pure Assamese traditional attire. The interiors along with the restaurant staff in traditional Assamese attire are a treat for the eyes. It's really very pleasing. The staff are exceptionally well mannered and polite who tend to reach and every need of the guests visiting there the restaurant. I was very pleased with their conduct. I would like to compare Uruka restaurant with one of the larger multi chained restaurants of India, Barbeque Nation. What I saw in Uruka was an Assamese version of Barbeque Nation. We had opted for the buffet lunch and as such there was sequence of starters that was offered to us which consisted of Paneer pakora, prawn pakora, masala sweet corn, fried fish along with a sour traditional drink (non alcoholic). The food thing with the starters was that we could eat as much as we liked, there's no bar. After having the starters we proceeded towards the buffet lunch which again had so many items to choose from. It had plain rice, pulao, chicken curry, fish curry, along with all sorts of other items prepared from fish and chicken. Overall we had a truly satisfying time visiting this restaurant. Definitely...
Read moreI have given one star for the items in the buffet, which is easily available at any assamese home irrespective to special feast of festive.. There was nothing special breath taking for one to look forward again and again. So its good for one time exploration. The price is.... Rs 490 per person. But after knowing about the items in the buffet I was literally unhappy and regretted for making an entry into the restaurant. Had the food been any near special money was not a matter. The starter was nothing extra ordinary(sweet corn, 2 pieces of prawn and panner pokora and chicken and small fish one piece each) U definitely can ask for more, but dnt think you wud do dat if u really know wat barbeque coz the chicken and fish tasted rather fried. The main course had white rice, chicken curry, fish and dal along with few numbers of around 6 t0 8 supplementary sabji and chutney, the one we usually eat on daily basis. The the most horrible was the desert. I thot of making myself happy with the desert but that only added fuel to my disappointment... Curd with jaggery. Carrot halwa(i never knew its an assamese dish) and 1 piece of KHURMA ( i was like... what... really......) Also why did they say that you have to pay extra if you want to have mutton... Really for drinks its fine but for food. Mutton is nothing extraordinary or unique to charge extra Also to mention the good things...... Wonderful hospitality, Good vibe with vintage assamese music, place to rest after food, Clean and always smiling staffs. Also all the staffs were women, so women employment. Pretty nice for photography. N.B: For food i wont suggest but if u r only for hangout, date and not really for food u can. If you have knowledge on what assamese cuisine is in real for any feast we shall be...
