Davanagere Benne Dose — Restaurant in Bengaluru

Calling it overrated would be underrated. It is popular, sure -- no doubt about it, but what they provide, how they provide and on top of that the attitude of the bloke who does billing isn't anything to be proud of. Visited last Saturday for a quick bit for breakfast as we were in the vicinity and waiting for a shop to open. Ordered Masala Benne Dosa and a Khali Dosa. About 10 people were waiting before me, but even after 3 rounds of dosas being prepared, our dosa was not yet served. They kept saying that our dosa will be ready in next round from the 2nd round. Got tired of it, asked for refund, and got lot of attitude from the chap, asking "why we cannot wait, that everybody waits here". Another guy serving had told me that most of the orders were Zomato/Swiggy orders. On top of that, what I saw about the quality and how the dosas being prepared wasn't that much of a happy encounter either. Use loads of butter (if it is truly butter and not margeraine like Nutralite), like almost 75-100gm of butter per Benne dosa, the chutney served (as I saw for others) was quite watery, and dosa while crispy was...

I feel this place is over priced!! I understand they put benne (Butter), but that doesn't mean that they should reduce the size of the dosa to half of what you get in other places for half price of Davanagere Benne Dosa!! They're charging more for that benne only, that also they add lesser than other places!! I had Benne masala Dosa, the Aloo stuffing was very less!! The Coconut chutney they give is not at all tasty!! Overall, I didn't get the taste of butter no where while I was having Dosa here!! I couldn't find any difference between normal Dosa and benne Dosa apart from benne Dosa is double price for half size of the normal dosa!! This place is self served and you stand and eat on a pedestrian way!! However, I have seen few people enjoying Dosa here!! So, you can still try this place!!...

Visited it on a weekend morning, when it was quite busy with walkin customers and delivery app personnel.

Do not be fooled by the places simple exterior, there is no compromise in quality. We had ordered Benne dosa, open dosa, benne masal dosa and benne idli. Other than the idli, all the dishes have our double thumbs up. Crispy, soft and dripping with butter as it has to be, accompanied by well done aloo pale and spicy chutney.

The size of the dosas is slightly smaller compared to other outlets but, is priced lower as well. Have rated one star less cause of the long wait time and smaller portion sizes.
