Hmmm. Karavali Fine Dine Restaurant in Kormangala boasts a 4.6 rating. Why? Well, that's a mystery that may never be solved. The only thing that might justify the hole this place burns in your wallet is the fish curry meals. Let me walk you through our delightful experience.

We arrived on a rainy day at 11:45 am, eager for some fine dining. But guess what? We were told the restaurant wasn’t open yet. Odd, because their listed opening time is 11:30 am. Maybe they run on some otherworldly clock? After standing there like hungry ghosts for what felt like an eternity, we were finally permitted to enter the kingdom of mediocre meals.

Then came the fun part. We politely inquired about the rates for prawns and squid - because naturally, they had conveniently left those off the menu. Fast forward to when our food arrived, but not before we had the pleasure of enduring music at the volume of a village fair. Charming, right? We requested the cashier-slash-DJ to turn it down. And guess what this genius did? He cranked it up to heavy metal concert levels. Nice touch!

Now, onto the food. The prawns ghee roast was practically a soup. The chicken uruval? More like chicken candy. Sweetness levels off the charts. Honey sesame chicken? Same story. Sugar, sugar, and more sugar. The squid masala fry was... well, at least it was edible. The ghee rice, on the other hand, was drowning in ghee and somehow still undercooked. Neer dosa? Finally, something decent! The ginger lime and mint lime sodas? Not bad. Too bad they can't run a restaurant on drinks alone.

Oh, and here’s the kicker: whatever price they casually mention to you? Expect it to inflate by a solid 35% when the bill shows up. A delightful surprise to cap off your experience.

Karavali Restaurant: A Culinary Delight You Can’t Miss!

If you’re looking for an exceptional dining experience that brings the authentic flavors of coastal Karnataka to your plate, look no further than Karavali Restaurant. This hidden gem is a haven for food enthusiasts who appreciate traditional recipes crafted with love and authenticity.

The ambiance at Karavali is warm and welcoming, with a decor that reflects the coastal heritage of the region. The menu is a treasure trove of delicacies, featuring everything from aromatic seafood dishes to vegetarian delights that celebrate the essence of South Indian cuisine.

One must-try dish is their iconic Fish Curry—perfectly spiced and paired with piping-hot neer dosa or steamed rice. For vegetarians, the Mangalorean Ghee Roast and Udupi-Style Sambhar are a treat for the senses. Don’t forget to finish your meal with their classic Payasam, a dessert that is both comforting and indulgent.

The staff here are incredibly courteous and attentive, ensuring you feel at home throughout your visit. The portions are generous, and the prices are very reasonable considering the quality of the food.

I had prawns ghee roast (₹380) and neer dosa (₹70), chicken dum biryani (₹310) and tender coconut payasam (₹120). The prawns ghee roast tasted good. It was hot, spicy and had a tinge of sweetness from the prawns. Both quantity and quality of it was satisfactory. The neer dosa was good. The chicken dum biryani was very average. It tasted pretty okay. It had a lot of masala though, because of which it was too spicy. It also had just 2 chicken pieces and the quantity of rice was also very less. The tender coconut payasam was amazing. It was the best of the lot. But more than the food, the atmosphere and the service was very concerning. There were cockroaches in the restaurant. We saw a cockroach in the side of our table. The service was also not great with the waiters not serving regular water despite asking. The waiters seem to be uninterested in servicing and working. The restaurant has an option to pay via magicpin with 15℅ off. But, when enquired the restaurant declined it and asked us not to pay saying they are not able to receive payments through magicpin, swiggy, etc. I find this hard to believe and if the restaurant doesn't wants to receive payments through magicpin then they should remove that option itself from the platform. Otherwise, it's misleading for the customers. Overall a very bad experience. Primarily because of the service and atmosphere!
