Trying out different cuisines every now and then sure challenges your taste buds. This week we went to Mast Marathi in HSR Layout, Bengaluru to try out some delicious food from the state of Maharashtra. The place is small and cute, the service is pretty fast, and the food is fresh as well. You can find parking right opposite to the restaurant as well. We had the following while we were at Mast Marathi.
The first dish had to be Misal Pav, having tried some of the best in Pune, we were eagerly waiting to get our hands on this. The pav is well done, with the right amount of butter, while the misal is tasty and not very spicy at all. Surely it was way below par compared to the ones in Pune, but this was one of the better versions available in the city of Bengaluru.
Cheese Masala Pav was something that we had not come across before and we were very curious to try this one out. It is basically pav bread cut into small pieces which is sauted in Pav Bhaji masala, mixed with few veggies, and topped with a lot of cheese. This dish is quite heavy on the stomach, but it had a very unique sweet and sour taste and was worth the try.
Masala Butter Milk had a fair amount of leaves mixed with the drink, the freshness and the salty flavor was perfect indeed.
Amruttulya Chai is a special tea from Pune that is made in the traditional style, this was very different from the regular chai we usually come across, a bit too sweet though.
Lastly, we ended our time at Mast Marathi with the Vada Pav. The pav was consistent and nice, smeared with butter, and the aloo filling was tasty and not so spicy. The mirchi adds to the spiciness while the red chilli powder was not that dominant.
The bathroom over here is a disaster, the most unhygienic place ever. I hope the staff takes better care of this, if they can’t then just don’t allow the guests to use it. You can find Mast Marathi at Site 1, 18th Main, Sector 3, HSR Layout, Near Sri Shirdi Saibaba Mandir, HSR, Bangalore.

Read moreAfter a long time of having been in lockdown mode, wanted to go out for lunch..being vegetarian, decided on trying Maharastrian food for a change. After going through several reviews, ended up at Mast Marathi with my family. The place was easy to spot being on the main road. On entering the restaurant, found it neat and well lit.
Had a look at the menu and we decided on few items just to get a taste of the food. Opted for 1 plate each of Misal pav, Sabudhana vada, Paav bhaji, Vada paav, Poori Chenna/aloo subji and Thalipeeth. It took them about 5-10min to get order ready before food made its way to the table. The Misal paav came first with another plate of 5 big crispy Sabudhana vadas and chutney.
Misal paav was good but the after burn of spice slowly kicked in.. 🙂 Liked the taste of Paav Bhaji which was way better than the way it is prepared at other local restaurants. Sabudhana Vada was nice with an accompaniment which tasted more like sour sweet mayo than like a chutney(meant in good way) . The Thalipeeth plate had 2 pieces and taste was okay. Overall felt it was good food, didn't feel any heaviness after sampling above items.
Requested for a parcel of Kothmir Vada for tea in evening which was nice with a bit of spice.
Note: The Misal paav was served warm however by the time we started eating, it was at room temperature due to AC..suggested that it be served hot instead of being served warm to which we got clarification that customers generally can't handle both heat and spice at same time. Therefore customers can request for their preference of heat/spice before being served same.
Pricing was a tad bit higher, understandable considering location rentals and expenses.
The staff were genuinely polite which was a refreshing change as compared to made up politeness or no politeness as in most restaurants.

Read moreHeard about this authentic Maharashtrian cuisine restaurant a lot and finally got a chance to visit and enjoy the food. This place serves some of the authentic and delicious Maharashtrian food. After visiting this place all your cravings will be satisfied.
They serve different types of refreshing drinks to quench your thirst. Out of all the drinks, aam panna, kokum sharbat, solkadi and Piyush is a must try. Solkadi is prepared from coconut milk and kokum. Piyush is similar to lassi, prepared by mixing usual lassi ingredients but shikhand is the special ingredient in this.
If you are talking about mumbai food, then vada pav and dabeli is the most popular and best snack. Their vada pav is at par and one of the best in Town. Dabeli is again full of flavour and spiciness.
If you are here don't miss on trying pav bhaji and missal pav. Best missal pav in the town. Missal was cooked properly with special mumbaiya masala which will give you a typical street food experience.
If you love Maharashtrian thali and crave for it then must ask for their special thali menu, served only over the weekends. Special Thali is enough for one person.
Poori combo is again a most enjoyable dish they have in their menu. I have tried poori with aamras and poori with aalu bhaji and shikhand. Both the poori combos were out of the world. It was simple yet delicious. Definitely a must try here.
In desserts they have the authentic Modak and pooran poli, shikhand, bhasundi ( Maharashtrian rabdi) and lot more. Loved the richness of bhasundi and shikhand. Perfect sweet to end the meal with happy and satisfied tummy.
Overall, a simple and elegant restaurant with authentic and delicious dishes to offer at affordable prices. Quick service and friendly staffs will make the experience...
