Nusa Tropical Brewvilla has been highly recommended by all my friends, from the time they started a closed tasting and is touted as a must do if you live around Whitefield. I decided to check this place out for a lazy Sunday lunch for an intimate family celebration. We were in awe looking at the space and chose to sit inside as opposed to outside on a very sunny afternoon in Bengaluru. We started the meal with a Pandan Mango Slush and their signature Kunafa prawn fritters. I was very excited to try their savoury take on a middle eastern dessert, but it only led to a disappointing note, that the thin fried vermicelli could not hold the prawns in a single bite and had to be carefully handled. There was a lack of any middle eastern spices and we ended up with mildly bland prawns with the crispy shell falling off. The mashed tomato chutney was a sweet sour mix that helped with the flavour, but it would not hold on to the protein much.
The Pandan Mango slush was an excellent mango milkshake with little to no pandan flavour that was just perfect for the weather, thoroughly enjoyed and was so close to ordering another serving but decided against it and got an elderflower infused cranberry cooler called Ruby Refresher, equally fantastic and lived to its name of being a complete refresher.
To further advance we had ordered honey chili prawns, British style fish and chips, Telangana chicken lollipops and a portion of the popular peri peri fries. The honey chili prawns made up for the kunafa prawns, it was an excellent version with balanced sweet, and spicy flavours that were just perfect. The battered down thin fish and chips was an excellent addition too, with a sauce to indulge. The Telangana chicken lollipops were ok, nothing fancy apart from the presentation. With all the starters and drinks, the family was completely full and wanted to call it a day, but I insisted that we try at least a main and maybe a dessert, with a promise to pack any leftovers for dinner.
The homestyle chicken curry and nool parotta combo was very enticing for wifey and the Nasi Goreng is something that I wanted to try, as Nusa claims to be Bali themed in ambiance and in food. Unable to decide, we ordered both, and just tried the parota with the curry, packed it, while I did full justice to the Nasi Goreng chicken and completed the decent portion.
The chicken curry true to its name was very homestyle, reminding us of the brown kurma from the famed Pandia's restaurant in Chennai, the nool parotta not so much, was a bit too dry and not much of nool. The Nasi Goreng was a nearly authentic version with a heavy lemongrass flavoured satay, with the strong prawn crackers, and I only wish if they kept a dollop of the sambal on the side for me to mix up with the rice to increase the flavour, which was good as it came.
I forced myself to try a dessert, which was an overkill, but how can we finish without dessert. Ordered the Enchanted Forest, which took forever to appear on our table, but a bit disappointing, maybe because with a name like that we expected something inspired by the Dessert King Reynold Poer of Masterchef Australia. It was a milk chocolate mousse dome with a cherry compote heart, on a bed of chocolate soil, surrounded by chocolate rocks. The description promised a ganache, but what we got was a mousse, which was not very impressive or expected from a place that had some stellar mains and appetizers. Also, at that price we could have enjoyed another appetizer.
Booking was a breeze through Swiggy Dineout, though I missed out on the discount by paying through the app neither did the staff offer that upfront. The service started mild, but soon declined as we progressed through the meal, but that can be discounted as being the busiest day and time of the week. Overall a good experience, there is loads more to try, we have not even scraped the surface in this extensive, but good menu, hopefully a visit is...
Read moreA Mediocre Culinary Experience
Nusa Restaurant, touted as an eclectic culinary destination, unfortunately fell short of expectations during my recent visit. While the ambiance was pleasant and undeniably "Instagram-worthy," the food and beverages failed to impress.
My dining experience began with a speedy delivery of the nachos, which arrived in under 5 minutes. Although prompt service is usually commendable, the quality suffered as a result. The nachos appeared to be prepackaged and lacked the freshness and authenticity one would hope for. Additionally, the accompanying sour cream was disappointing, detracting from the overall flavor profile.
An order of gochujang paneer promised an exciting fusion of flavors, but sadly, it missed the mark. The paneer had only a paste on top with minimal marination, leaving much to be desired. This dish lacked the depth and complexity that one would expect from a restaurant touting international flavors.
Moving on to the sliders and nasi goreng, I found them to be underwhelming. The sliders were uninspired, lacking the flavorful punch I anticipated. Similarly, the nasi goreng failed to make an impression, with its mediocre taste and lackluster presentation.
Despite the disappointing culinary offerings, the restaurant's ambiance did not go entirely unnoticed. Nusa Restaurant boasts a visually appealing and trendy interior, perfect for capturing aesthetically pleasing photographs. The attention to detail in the decor and overall design made it evident that the establishment prides itself on creating an appealing visual backdrop.
Unfortunately, the shortcomings of the food were mirrored in the cocktail selection. The cocktails, while visually enticing, erred on the side of excessive sweetness, leaving me yearning for a more balanced and nuanced flavor profile.
In conclusion, Nusa Restaurant's aesthetic appeal and chic ambience may be its main draw, making it a suitable location for capturing social media-worthy images. However, the mediocrity of the food and overly sweet cocktails overshadowed the overall experience. Disappointingly, a visually appealing facade could not compensate for the lackluster culinary offerings.
For those seeking a memorable dining experience centered around exceptional cuisine and well-crafted beverages, Nusa Restaurant, regrettably,...
Read moreWe visited Nusa Tropical Brewvilla hoping for a relaxing day out, but it turned into a highly disappointing experience. We ordered our drinks, settled in, and were initially enjoying ourselves until we discovered a fly in one of our beers. I brought this to the staff’s attention, and they took the drink away, saying they’d replace it. Although I was already uncomfortable realizing I’d been drinking a beer with a fly in it, I was willing to overlook it, thinking mistakes happen.
However, what followed left me shocked and frustrated. Rather than offering a simple apology or a new beer, they returned with my original glass – still contaminated – and poured in barely 100 ml of beer as a "replacement." There was no new glass, no washing of the original one, and no genuine concern for the issue. I left the 100 ml untouched; drinking from that glass would have felt like a compromise of my self-respect.
What made things worse was how the staff treated the entire situation. Instead of making me feel valued, they made me feel like I was begging for a free drink. A simple apology would have sufficed, but their dismissive gesture was insulting. This isn't about the beer – it's about basic hospitality, which was sorely lacking here.
Nusa Tropical Brewvilla needs to understand that handling issues with respect and empathy is crucial in the service industry. Every place is fine until you encounter a problem, and how it’s handled makes all the difference. Unfortunately, this place failed in that regard, and I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone looking to enjoy quality time with friends or family. Others may have had better experiences, but I’m sharing my own to caution those who value good hospitality.
Update: After reading previous reviews, I noticed a recurring theme: complaints about flies going back as far as six months. Despite numerous customer comments and the owner’s promises to improve, the fly problem remains – and in substantial numbers.
This pattern of "we’ll improve" responses is clearly empty. It seems they forget their promises as soon as they post them. The ongoing presence of flies, despite half a year of complaints, speaks volumes about their commitment (or lack thereof) to customer satisfaction and...
