Sichuan
True to its name, this tiny restaurant packs a solid "Sichuan" punch in terms of the food and flavours, which is very different from the usual desi chinese that we are used to. On a Sunday night, we had to wait for an hour to get the table just before the closing time and the food definitely did not disappoint us.
The staff at Sichuan is courteous and the service was prompt, which even around 11pm on a Sunday night was a breath of fresh air. Before we went in, we saw at least 20 Zomato/Swiggy orders and almost 10 tables being served in the restaurant simultaneously.
What we ate:
Cantonese Fried Rice (INR 190) - The fried rice was greenish in colour and I didn’t know what to expect but it was surprisingly good. The ginger garlic was not overpowering and the rice was nice and fluffy, perfect to be paired with a spicy veg or non-veg gravy.
Sichuan Chicken (INR 270) - The gravy was good, appropriately spicy and a touch of tangy flavours along with chicken and diced vegetables like onions, capsicum and beans. It would be nice to have this with fried rice or even normal white rice.
Chilli Garlic Noodles (INR 200) - The start of the night was these Chilli garlic noodles which were neither too thick nor too thin. The noodles were spicy and didn’t need any condiments to go along with it. You can also have this with any gravy based manchurian or non-veg gravy.
We also wanted to try the dimsums/gyoza but they were already sold out. The quantity was more than enough for 2 people and the pricing is good on the pocket too.
The whole meal cost us INR 760 for 2 people and we have leftovers for lunch the next day. What else can...
Read moreThe other day we visited Sichuan in HSR to celebrate the first day of 2022. The restaurant is around 10 years old and it's very surprising how I have missed this all these years. It was full and bustling. The staff was quick in serving as well as clearing and cleaning the table for the next set of customers. We thankfully had a 10 min wait only.
As the name suggests, most of the dishes have the Sichuan peppers as the hero of the dishes and almost all of them have the spicy chilli symbol in the menu 😃
What we wolfed?
Dragon soup - a lovely thick tangy broth with chicken and vegetables. I usually add my own set of condiments to the soup everytime. This was just perfect as it came.
Spicy pork black bean - an exquisite preparation that did complete justice to the meat and brought out the best flavors. The meat was melt in the mouth and so was the fat and skin. Absolutely brilliant.
Prawn black pepper - they killed the prawns with the spices and overcooked the meat too. Avoidable.
Qinchai chicken - one of the few non spicy ones with excellent flavor of sake and crisp stir fried vegetables along with the chicken.
Chicken bamboo rice - though traditionally made in bamboo, this was made the regular way but had bamboo shoots, veggies and made with sake in it so the flavors were excellent.
Chicken Ma La Zi - lovely gravy that paired well with the rice.
Chicken hakka noodles for the kid - well made and flavored. Probably the only thing along with the chicken starter we ordered for the kid that wasn't spicy.
All in all a lovely place which will become our go to place going forward. Very good...
Read moreWe were looking for an In-chin restaurant and since I had been to Beijing bites last time I wanted to try out something new. Picked Sichuan based on google reviews. I asked my wife to check and let me know as I was trying to park my car. She said it was ok and since we were hungry did not want to drive another 10-15 mins searching for a new restaurant The ambience was very normal, there was no A/C. The table had flies, so we switched to a new table. We went ahead and tried our luck on food, ordered mushroom pepper and Gobi Manchurian as starters. For entrees we chose schechwan rice and green curry noodles. The food came so quickly and was cooked well and was decorated too. Looks like the owner is surviving with a very good chef. Since we love tofu we ordered the rice with tofu as extra. To my disappointment the tofu was stale and tasted bad. The owner was quick to find out our reaction and spoke with us and also asked if he could make a new one without tofu. Since i had removed most of it at that time we went ahead without a replacement. The green curry noodles that my son ordered was the best, it has hints of coconut milk which he loved. Will surely recommend only carry...
