After months of being restricted to home in view of current corona virus pandemic and concerns regarding health and well being, decided to step out and visit a restaurant at HSR layout for breakfast. Wanted to be sure to visit a place that is not only hygienic and safe but has nice choice of breakfast items. Having tasted food at most of the restaurants of this area over time, decided to try out breakfast at MTR branch which was on my list for some time. For those of you who are new to Bengaluru, Mavalli Tiffin Rooms or commonly known as MTR is an iconic restaurant of the city, their first and famous branch being one near Lalbagh is a recommended place for the lunch on silver plates or tasty South Indian tiffin. Branch at HSR very neatly maintained and one can see traditional MTR ambience with a modern touch. As you pass the entrance, one would see the cashier desk at left side and a small section of snack items on the right. There is a seating area at the first floor as well. Fortunately, as it was a weekend morning and a rainy day, there were few customers and usual staff milling around between the customer tables and service section. My family and I ordered a few items - a Ghee Masala dosa, Puri masala, Mini tiffin plate and a Mosaru Vade (Dahi Vada). All the items arrived at about the same time. Ghee Masala Dosa was great; right level of crispness, a tasty lump of aloo/onion and a tiny cup of ghee for added taste :) For those of you who want to sample multiple tiffin items in small quantities in one plate, ask for the "Mini Tiffin" - it has 1 Idli and Vada, Kara baath(spicy/tangy upma), Kesari baath(sweet), a mini masala dosa, chutney, sambar accompanied by a tumbler of hot coffee (without sugar). They get you a sugar cup along with cofee from which you can add sweetness to the coffee as per your liking which is great. Mosaru(Kannada for Dahi) Vade was made with right amount of kara boondhi. Overall a nice filling breakfast Tables are spaced well away from one another allowing people to move around easily(unlike some restaurants where there are space constraints). Customers can see the section (separated by wall of clean glass) where food is prepared and then passed on to staff who get the plates of tasty food to eagerly waiting customers.Waiting time for food wasn't much..approximately 5-10min at the most. Staff were modest and polite; Serving staff wore masks and gloves all the time. They ensured warm drinking water was served which was a relief. Tables are cleared quickly as soon as customers finish food of plates. Hand wash area is neat. Pricing is higher compared to other places, however it is ok considering the tasty food, ambience and most importantly hygiene at this branch of the famous restaurant There is a small section for parking two wheelers close by the entrance however cars would need to be parking by the roadside.

A must visit restaurant for all the vegetarians who love South Indian delicacies. Quality, quantity, and taste can be found under one roof. MTR has always been a favorite of mine and I finally made it to the HSR branch, which I had been waiting for a long time. As it was a weekday lunchtime, there was a lot of people on the ground floor, so the staff directed me to the first floor. The floors are both red and white in their original theme while also being clean, neat, and tidy.Despite being packed, the restaurant has been kept in excellent condition with an appropriate temperature during the hot summers. Although I had planned to eat something specific, I chose to indulge in special meals. The description did sound great and I felt I could eat it all. Later, I realized that I had ordered something while in delusion. The meals began with poori, saagu, chatney, dry vegetable, a salad, a grape juice as welcome drink and a payasam. Apart from grape juice everything was delicious. While I did enjoy the poori and other accomplishments, I was served with a delicious masala dosa. I could have stopped there and proceeded with the next item, but No. the staff kept on bringing poori and dosa, I ended up eating 4 pooris and 4 dosas. Then it was time for rice items, initially it was lemon rice which was nice, then bisibele bath with raita which was delicious. I thought of quitting it, but the staff did arrive with plain rice and rassam and served it saying The restaurant's rasam is something people are crazy about. So I literally had to try it and trusts me it really did drive me crazy. Finally with lots of difficulties I finished everything that was on my plate, then the staff arrived with curd rice, with heavy heart I had to say NO to it, but couldn’t resist the ice cream with fruits. Finally I finished my meals with a desi paan and left the restaurant with heavy stomach. If you ever plan to visit this restaurant, just a caution: the staff is really sweet and try to feed you as much as possible in case of spacial meals.

I visited here on a Sunday morning to have my breakfast. The restaurant is very easy to locate and is situated on the main road. Parking for 2 wheelers was easily available for 2 wheelers and for 4 wheelers. The restaurant was quite busy, and the waiting period was around 10 to 15 minutes. I ordered masala dosa, vada, idli, and rava idli. Rava idli was not available for breakfast, and I was quite surprised. The food was good 👍 and similar to some of the Udupi restaurants in the city. Dosa was crisp and small in size. Idli's size and quantity were good. Vada was crisp and tasty. Sambar was not up to the mark. I had a good breakfast but for a very premium price. The same items can be had for Rs. 100 to 150 at other good restaurants like Vidyarthi Bhavan, whereas here it cost me Rs. 305 for a normal breakfast which every Bangalorean has. Hence, the prices for dishes are not justified at all. I am giving 3 stars for prices because of the prices which are very high. If the same restaurant was in Delhi or Dubai the prices would have been justified as a good masala dosa, vada, idli, etc. are not easily available, but in Bangalore we need our Masala Dosa to be reasonably priced and not Rs. 107, no matter even if it is coming from a brand of MTR. In fact, being a brand and with a chain of restaurants, they should serve people with a good breakfast at reasonable prices.

I went to MTR after many months of visiting Bangalore. I decided to go on a Sunday and was disappointed when I found out they don't serve the alacarte on Sundays, so you're left to purchase the SUNDAY meals for Rs-270 ! When was the last time a meals costed so much ? Anyhow since I was hungry, I just went for it. We were served with fresh grape juice with pulp, quite refreshing to be honest along with the prison plates that one can find all across vegetarian restaurants. The staffers started to one by one start filling the plate with so much food, it was quite overwhelming. I don't go crazy on carbohydrates, but seeing other people eat the amount of rice, it was quite a sight, however I did get myself 3 medium size dosa in the thali, which Is what I came for in the first place. No complaints with the quality or quantity of food served. Everything was on point, however the payasam was quite watery. At the end of the meals we were served with pineapple ice cream and fruit salad, which was also quite refreshing and to spoil the taste of all the great food you've just eaten, they give you beeda. I would like to try this place on a weekday.

This MTR branch is a favorite of ours! The food here is consistently delicious, and it's cleaner than the Indiranagar location. Plus, they've got an extra floor to accommodate more diners. When you are super hungry, the tiffin meal is a lifesaver – it's got everything from curd rice to payasam covered. While the rava idli isn't our thing, the thatte idli is a must-try for any idli lover, they serve it with a unique korma but I order for sambar instead. Another standout is the bonda soup – perfect for warming up on a chilly day. Their bisi belle rice is also good! My husband is a fan of their sweet counter, always opting for something new, though the Mysore pak is just okay – the real winner is the badusha! Sundays, however, can be disappointing with only unlimited non-shareable thali meals. As for the staff, they can be a bit rough, but it's best to brush it off and focus on the delicious food. Oh, and a word of caution: avoid the mouth freshener unless you enjoy chomping on hard supari!

Mavalli Tiffin Room, one of the finest and famous veg restaurants, but this seems to be a normal veg restaurant to me, although the waiting time is more and despite you get a table after 30mins and food is not served fast, very delayed, had to ask for food multiple times. We had special meals and waited for a masala dose to be served for more than 20mins and they won't come and serve too. Very disappointing to know that the MTR brand has nothing to do with this restaurant. Despite asking multiple times the server felt annoyed and we were not happy at all, come on, let me ask you this you were served with a plate with only side dishes with one poori what is your reaction after 20mins despite asking to serve? Everyone visit a restaurant to eat and fill their hungry tummy.
