Beautiful set up, Horrible food (predictable)
We had heard that the croissants are a speciality here but it didn't take us long to realise how unworthy the food was.
The place was beautiful, both out doors and in doors. I'd suggest go during the evening, It's gonna be a nice outdoor vibe for you. The scene outside is equally dramatic. The view which showed us the the simple livelihood contrasted with the veritable interiors. The sittings were comfortable, there was an option of indoor AC seating and outdoor. Whoever did the interior clearly looked into the minor details, such as very neat looking healthy and in sync perfectly placed plants as you enter, the tiles of quality (likely from simpolo), the elevator that had a ceiling design, the VERY prominent coloured door, making it obvious where the way is (this was iconic considering we had a hard time finding this place). As we enter we find curvy furniture (a trendy piece), light grey sofas, and a mix of minimal and bold fusion. From the display to the colin bottle and micro fiber cloth used to wipe the table. Each and every detail was taken care of. Each and every detail of appearance I mean.
The sofa was very uncomfortable to eat from the table no doubt, making an embarrassing mess. The white curvy tables as furniture pieces had a bad finishing. And you know what? It doesn't matter cause it looks amazing. But it did matter when the food arrived. Going through the menu, I saw a fancy words, not a varied option, just enough. The menu held an expectation, when the food arrived not only was it not upto the expectation, the prices were too high and the it wasn't as authentic as it claimed it to be. The Sando, for example, not really white stuffed milk bread or the crosswich, which really felt like thick patties sandwiched in Chicken curry and ham. The chicken pot even worst, same chicken curry (acceptable and understandable) with patties slapped on top of it (not understandable). With a heavy heart, we finally decided to try out one of those delicious cheesecakes displayed. Boy did it looks fluffy and we'll garnished with actual blueberries! I broke one piece off with my spoon. the crust was rather hard, already. It broke off easy, okay. It tasted...like amul powder? Alright we were done.
Finally we didn't have any mood to take pictures or buy their expensive overpriced merch (the keychain notebook was 99/-, it's a great gift to your loved ones). After feeling scammed, we left.
The owner has clearly put effort into the place, however the effort was in the experience of the customers and not their food. You like aesthetic places, want to take pictures and experience eating from cute cups? Go for it! (Given that you don't mind making a mess after attempting to eat a croissanwich leaning towards a table from your seated sofa while crumps fall off). If you like food, don't. Really, just don't. It's not worth the 449/- mini butter bliss pot pie. This place is selling it's appeal and experience not the actual (terrible) food.
(ps- I am surprised to find someone many positive reviews, it is possible that the food I had was one of those...
Read moreEkaiva Bakehouse & Studio, nestled in the district center of Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar, presents itself with a captivating retro ambiance that promises a trip down memory lane. However, while the atmosphere may transport you to another era, the prices at Ekaiva Bakehouse & Studio are less reminiscent of nostalgia and more reminiscent of sticker shock.
Upon stepping into Ekaiva, one cannot help but appreciate the attention to detail in creating an ambiance that exudes charm and warmth. The retro theme is executed with finesse, setting the stage for a delightful dining experience. However, the allure of the ambiance quickly fades when confronted with the exorbitant prices on the menu.
While the taste of the food at Ekaiva is commendable, with dishes like the "Curry Chicken Salad Croissanwich" offering a satisfying burst of flavors, the enjoyment is somewhat marred by the steep prices attached to each item. At ₹349 for a single dish, one can't help but question the rationale behind such pricing, especially when considering the competitive landscape of Bhubaneswar's culinary scene.
As a patron, it's difficult to justify frequent visits solely based on ambiance when faced with such pricing disparity. While taste and ambiance undoubtedly contribute to the overall experience, they must be accompanied by reasonable pricing to encourage repeat patronage. With alternatives like Mayfair offering similar quality at a fraction of the cost, it's imperative for Ekaiva to reassess its pricing strategy to attract and retain customers.
The cafe's decision to charge ₹700 for a single piece of Tiramisu cake further highlights the disconnect between pricing and value. Such exorbitant prices are simply unjustifiable given the taste and ambiance offered.
In conclusion, while Ekaiva Bakehouse & Studio may have succeeded in creating a captivating ambiance, it falls short in delivering value to its customers due to its unreasonably high prices. Without addressing this pricing issue and focusing on attracting repeat customers through a more balanced pricing strategy, the long-term viability of the cafe remains uncertain amidst Bhubaneswar's competitive cafe landscape. Therefore, a rating of 3 stars is reflective of the disconnect between ambiance...
