I was in Nodia for an official meeting along with business associates and we were all looking for a place to have lunch, having been to Dhaba at various places in Delhi, I was assured of good food at this outlet, but to my surprise this was not Dhaba by Claridges but had a similar feel to it, probably a franchise or a places made loosely around the same theme.
Located in the G Block of most famous 18 sector market of Nodia, this restaurant was situated on the first floor above Archies Gallery and below Burbee's restaurant. It was a cramped setting in a small place for a 35-40 seater outlet with a lovely decor of old bollywood posters and bangles, giving it a total Desi look. But there weren't many people and the music wasn't too loud so we decided to sit here and order.
We were nine of us so we ordered a lot of starters and beverages, so we could talk business and spend more time, filled by the main course and desserts. They don't serve Alcoholic beverages, and the food options available were great for both Vegetarians as well as non Vegetarians. I personally ordered the
#Kya Chahiye Kuch Nahi- it was a bit of a surprise element at first, coz of the description in the menu, but it turned out to be a Masala Lemonade with too much masala added.
#Kala Khatta- this was a super refreshing drink with masala in the right proportion, it was tangy and sweet mix and a must have for people who like tangy twists.
#Kalmi Kebab- which can be ordered per piece and were clay oven cooked, chicken drumsticks marinated with cashewnut paste, yogurt and spices was very tender and juicy. It was the highlight of the meal
#Makhmali Machhi Tikka- this delightful boneless fresh river sole fish marinated with cream, coriander seeds and yellow chilies, roasted in oven and served with lots of melted cheese on top.
#Papadum Dahi Kebabs- the delectable pan fried dish which had a crunchy spicy papad thin outer layer and melt in the mouth stuffing of cottage cheese, don't know why they called it dahi kebab.
#Achari Soya chap- palatable soya Bean curly marinated with hung curd, spices, chilies and panch phoran masalas. Cooked on low flame, The flavours were just mind blowing. It's a must if you like soya bean chaap.
#Paneer Tikka Sunehri- Tandoor baked Cottage cheese kebabs, pre marinated with spiced yogurt and saffron. Very subtle flavours but a power punch.
#Butter Chicken Gujral ji wala- A tribute to the legend who introduced the Butter chicken to the world, this was a close replica of what is served at Moti Mahal restaurant. Smocked Chicken pieces Simmered in a Rich tomatoe gravy with cream, butter, cashewnut paste, the flavours of cardamom was overwhelming. This is a must have in gravies.
#Dhaba Meat- succulent Mutton peices marinated with yogurt and spices served in a home styled gravy was very tender and was so well cooked the Mutton was falling off the bone.
#Dal Makhani- Black lentils cooked overnight with lots of cream and butter and some in-house masalas. This was so rich and creamy and much enjoyable with the Garlic naan.
#Chicken Biryani - Chicken pieces cooked with basmati rice and topped with caramelised onions and ginger Julians flavoured with fresh mint, red chillies and saffron. The strong aromatic dish in a copper Handi was a hit among the non Vegetarians.
#Gulab Jamun- as winters are fast approaching most of the people preferred hit Gulab jamuns which were overly sweet for my palate but as they were sizzling hot, it was indeed a blessing.
#Rapchik Brownie with Ice Cream- this for me is a killer combo of hot and cold and I prefer to have this dish where ever I can get my hands on it. A Hot brownie alone with a vanilla ice cream topped with Hit chocolate sauce.
Overall a decent place, although very cramped but serves some mouth watering dishes and the service was impeccable and as I got good business from the client, it adds to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAtta market has always been a go to place for the people staying in Noida even before all the malls came up. Along with shopping comes food and this is the reason that Atta market is full of restaurants. And adding to the never ending list of restaurants at Atta market, Dhaba opened there a few months back and immediately made its presence felt.
Situated on the first floor, the decor of the place justifies the name completely which consists of all the elements one can think of while imagining a real dhaba. The place though is a little compact and fills up very quickly, so a reservation is definitely suggested to avoid the waiting time.
The menu more or less resembles the other Dhaba outlets and we started we "Papadam Dahi Kebab" which were very soft and their outer layering also consisted of papad bits which made it crispier and a little different from the usual dahi kebabs. Next came in "Achari Soya Tikka" which was very spicy and easy to eat due to the small size of the soya pieces. We also tried their "Paneer Tikka Sunheri" which was just amazing and our pick for the starters.
For the main course we ordered "Dal Makhani" which was at its usual best. What followed was the highlight of the our main course, "Jaipuri Malai Makhana Kofta" which had an amazingly thick gravy with very soft koftas. "Paneer Lababdar" on the other was rather simple and not much impressive. Surprisingly the portion size were huge and the order shall to placed accordingly to avoid any wastage.
Drinks accompanying our meal were "Banta Soda" & "Kya Chahiye Kuch Nahi" which were mostly lime based drinks with different spices differentiating them from each other.
Overall, desi dhaba decor, large portions and quality food makes Dhaba a nice place to take your family to, after a nice of shopping session at the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreRecreating the experience of a typical roadside dhaba is what us, north Indians, want ! We've all been to at least one in our lives ! This place has all that to offer with creative and witty tag lines written all over the tables and bright coloured decor with chooris on the ceiling.
Coming to the food, I would say 80% of the dishes did justice to the theme! For starters, we ordered Kalmi kabab which I would definitely recommend for non vegetarians, Papadam dahi kabab that can be easily skipped. The crust was too crispy for my liking. Achari soya chaap and Multani paneer tikka were the highlights amongst veg dishes. Not to be missed, especially if you're a vegetarian.
In the main course, we went for the standard Dal makhni and Butter chicken gujral ji wala which was one of the variant of butter chicken. These came with breads and a bowl of raita. To my surprise, the raita turned out to be delicious. Butter chicken was also good.
From the drinks menu, we ordered few. Their signature drink - Kya chahiye kuch nahi was a pleasant surprise to me and I really enjoyed it. Jaljeera shikanji can also be a good option. 2 let downs were Kala khatta and Sweet lassi. Kala khatta was not what I imagined it to be. It had too much masala and is totally different from what they have described it in the menu. Sweet lassi was not at all authentic lassi.
Lastly, we ordered Gulab jamun and Rapchik brownie with ice cream. Both gave us a palatable ending to our meal.
Overall, this place is all about dhaba with some good interiors. Good place to enjoy pure dhaba food with friends. Their service was pretty fast considering the restaurant was full during our visit. The only thing that bothered me was their seating. It can be too crowded and...
