Comprehensive Review: My Visit to Haldiram’s, Karol Bagh – The Good and the Not-So-Good
During my recent visit to Karol Bagh, one of Delhi's most popular shopping destinations, I decided to take a break from the bustling market streets and grab a meal at Haldiram’s. Known for its wide variety of Indian snacks, sweets, and meals, Haldiram's has built a solid reputation over the years, and I was excited to enjoy a clean, vegetarian dining experience amidst all the market chaos. While there were certainly some memorable positives, a few shortcomings did catch my attention. Here's my honest take on both sides of the experience.
Positive Aspects of My Visit:
Wide Variety of Food Options: One of the biggest strengths of Haldiram’s is its extensive menu. From North Indian thalis and South Indian dishes to Chinese options and street-style chaats, the variety caters to almost every palate. I ordered a Raj Kachori, a Chole Bhature, and finished with a serving of Rasgulla and Kesar Rasmalai. The portion sizes were generous, and each dish had a distinct taste. The Raj Kachori, in particular, was crisp, tangy, and loaded with flavorful fillings. Their sweets section was equally delightful with fresh and authentic taste.
Hygiene and Cleanliness: The first thing that struck me was how clean and organized the outlet was, despite being located in a very crowded shopping hub. The tables were being cleaned frequently, waste bins weren’t overflowing, and the counters looked tidy. Even the staff wore gloves and hairnets, which reassured me about the hygienic practices being followed in the kitchen.
Quick Service and Efficient Billing: The food court-style counter system worked smoothly. I placed my order, paid at the counter, and within a few minutes, my tray was ready. The queue system was managed well with digital displays. Considering how crowded the outlet was, I was impressed with the speed and efficiency of their operations.
Family-Friendly Environment: The seating area was spacious enough for families, and the overall atmosphere was quite welcoming. There were several families enjoying meals together, and I appreciated the comfortable and secure setting, especially in a market area where dining options can often be cramped or chaotic.
Location Advantage: Haldiram’s is located right in the heart of Karol Bagh, making it the perfect stopover after a long shopping spree. Whether you’re looking for a quick snack or a full meal, it offers an easy and accessible solution for tired shoppers.
Negative Aspects of My Visit:
Overcrowding and Noise: While the popularity of Haldiram’s is understandable, the overcrowding during peak hours made the experience slightly overwhelming. Finding a seat during lunch hours was a challenge. The noise level was high, and the waiting area near the counter was congested. It felt more like a busy railway station than a relaxing restaurant. Some crowd control or a waiting token system could help improve the experience.
Staff Behavior Could Be Friendlier: Although the service was fast, the customer service experience was a mixed bag. Some staff members seemed rushed and lacked basic courtesy. When I asked about ingredients due to a dietary concern, the counter staff gave very brief answers and appeared uninterested in helping. A little more patience and friendliness would go a long way in enhancing the customer experience.
Limited Seating Management: While the seating area is large, there seemed to be no system to manage or allocate tables. People who had finished eating were sitting and chatting, while those with trays in hand struggled to find a place. This led to awkward moments and delays. A small team to help manage tables during rush hours would improve this situation significantly.
Price vs. Value Balance: Though the food was tasty, I found the prices slightly on the higher side, especially for basic items like...

Read moreThis place is total chaos even on a day with a moderate crowd.
First of all, after you bill your order you have to figure out which counter to go to, to get your food order.
If you have ordered multiple items and the items are available in different counters, good luck with that. You will end up running all around with anxiety.
Some items have a counterfoil that you give at the counter and they are supposed to prepare your food on a first come first serve basis. But these guys are so busy with doing everything else than serving the customers and tracking the orders. Then, some items do not even have a counterfoil and it is up to you to do whatever, to try and get attention of the person at the counter and coax him to prepare your order.
Finally it comes down to the fact that the most forceful customer gets his order first, while the one who waits patiently thinking that the staff know their job and you wouldn't want to pressurise them, will only end up waiting.
We had to wait 20 minutes to half an hour to get a simple order of rajma chawal.
We had also ordered a sandwich, but the station where it was being prepared, had an air conditioning duct exactly on top, which was moldy and water was dripping right on the board where the sandwich was being prepared.we refused to take the item.
Wonder how such a simple hygiene hazard was not visible to the management or staff working in the...
