Firstly, I must apologize in advance for the lengthy review. However, I believe full context is necessary to truly understand our bleak experience at Goafornia.
My friends and I booked a table for the NYE party and paid 40,000 INR in total - 10,000 was the entry fee and 30,000 was the minimum spend required on food and drinks.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by a man, whom we understood to be the owner/manager. We then ordered our first round of drinks and were enjoying the venue and music for the first hour or so.
At some point I went to the toilet with 2 of my friends. There were 2 stalls, one of which had a sign taped on the door that read ‘Not Working’. However, the ‘working’ stall had no toilet paper, so my friend opened the other stall to check for toilet paper in there. She accidentally walked in on a Russian dancer, who was changing in the ‘Not Working’ stall - but she apologized immediately and closed the door. Once the dancer finished changing, she barged out and became hostile with my friend, saying that we should not have entered the stall that was ‘Not Working’. We tried to explain that we were merely looking for toilet paper; in our defense, the dancer failed to lock the door while she was changing. It was an honest mistake but she became extremely angry and stormed off.
A few moments later, she returned with another Russian woman and ambushed us while we were washing our hands. She said she was the owner of the club and yelled at my friend, in front of other customers, for “disrespecting her dancer”. We were not even given the opportunity to explain the misunderstanding (let’s not forget that this was about toilet paper); this woman just kept repeating that she was the owner - as if that was a threat - while the dancer hid behind her. Quite frankly, we were shocked that a business owner would treat paying customers with such immediate aggression instead of trying to de-escalate the situation. She was simply incapable of engaging in any constructive conversation. I had to tell her about 20 times to drop it and leave us alone before she finally conceded.
We then went to the man that greeted us at the start and explained what happened. To our surprise, he said that the owner is his wife and immediately apologized for her behavior; he also gave us a free bottle of Prosecco. He didn’t even question us or defend his wife in the slightest, which was very telling. In fact, he said that she would “beat him up” if he approached her about our complaint. It was evident that she was abusing her position as owner and left her husband to clean up her mess.
Despite this encounter with the owner, we tried our best to continue enjoying the evening (it hadn’t even struck midnight yet). However, as the venue became more busy, the service significantly deteriorated and eventually became non-existent. There was constant confusion to the point where we were waiting 2 hours for a second round of drinks. The waiters were only able to give us beer bottles (after about an hour of constant chasing) and said the delay was because we also ordered cocktails, which were “complicated” - that is an embarrassing and laughable excuse, considering we were at a beach club on NYE.
We ended up staying a few more hours while constantly begging for our second round of drinks, which never arrived. We eventually gave up and left around 2am. Our minimum spend of 30,000 INR mostly went to waste and we essentially felt like we were scammed.
We chose Goafornia that night due to the existing good reviews; however, it appears they went way beyond their capacity when hosting this NYE party. There was an extreme shortage of staff and we were definitely not the only ones who hadn’t received their drinks. The only saving grace was the music, so props to the DJ for making our time there somewhat enjoyable.
Although the service was atrocious, our interaction with the owner was really the fuel for me to write this review. I sincerely hope that she can learn from this and treat her customers (and her husband) with respect and grace...
Read moreI went to this place with my brother yesterday After researching and Finding a place for Party in Morjim area. The Title excited me and the location is also quite decent. We parked our Bike and my Brother who happens to look somewhat White entered the place without anyone asking.
Now begins the Story, I was stopped and I was asked 'Are you here for the party?' I immediately said, 'My bro just went in and he's already having a drink, see!' The Lady saw him at the Bar counter and allowed me in.
We dont mind spending a little extra when we are out with the intention of Partying and within minutes of just standing at the Bar counter, we had already paid an OK sum. The place looked Good and lively, and so we took a Table and were about to Order Further drinks and Starters, and a Bouncer comes next to us and says, 'Aapka Entry Tag kahan hai?' (Where is your Entry Tag?)
A Gentleman who was standing at a distance and who Claimed to be the owner of the place had sent that Bouncer neither knowing what Happened at the entry and What all we had ordered. Even waiters were stopped to Take orders from our Table.
I completely understand that there is an Entry at times and we would have paid any amount, that is never the concern when we or most others are out Partying in Goa, but if you know Not how to manage a place and you are seen Training the staff after opening the place and you happen to Insult two Good guests who are inside because of the lack of Training of the Lady at the entrance then there is no point opening such a place because soon such places either shut or are seen Gazing the streets for guests.
A few Non Indians were already sitting inside who probably entered without an Entry but I guess they were also allowed Entry on the same pretext on which my brother was.
I am Not Rich. I have studied in UK and worked as a Bartender in a Popular Club and been to Glastonbury Festivals many a times. I know what are the Rules and what should be the regulations. We need Highly Trained people who Train the staff Else Only Insult and Insult of the Guest happens and The Investment goes for a waste.
It's high time the Customer service of certain places of Goa brings about certain changes in the mindset.
We stayed for less than 15 mins and immediately left because of the humiliation.
I have attached my pic with Michael Eavis who owns...
