A few years ago, I ran into this new Udupi-style vegetarian restaurant, whose name I would repeatedly forget :-) It was Sarovar.
At that time, it's USP was clean, tasty, wholesome meals priced at just Rs 25!
Today, the price of the standard rice plate may have risen (along with inflation) to Rs 60, but it is still a nice place to go to. When I need a hurried, quick working lunch, this is where you'll often find me.
At lunch and dinner time, the menu is mostly the 'rice place'. A 'thali' on a stainless steel plate, with a little rice, chapatis, a couple of curries, a veg desh, a smallish glass of buttermilk, a small bowl of curd, and another with a sweet-dish.
There's also pickle, and you could ask for more. You can ask for sugar to go with your curd, but otherwise this is a 'limited' rice plate (i.e. fixed servings). No grumbling, of course, as for Rs 60 (at the current prices) you can get a filling meal.
You have a choice between chapatis or parathas or (somewhat oilier) puris. This depends on availability, and what time you reach there, of course.
Talking about timing, the restaurant tends to get crowded after 1 pm when the office crowd comes in. During the IFFI (International Film Festival of India) timings, go still earlier; as the IFFI venue is in the locality.
At dinner time, go before 8.45 pm, as the workers start closing the restaurant, having had a long day!
For the rest of the day, there is quite a variety of snacks, juices and ice-creams available. Mostly in the Udupi style from coastal south India.
The staff is polite and service, prompt.
