Me and my wife finally made time to visit the fairly-new @pastrycottagegoa in Mapusa. We frequently go to the one in Panjim on DB Marg and have always loved the chilled quirkiness as well as the food.
The outlet in Mapusa was a different story all together! While the Gadbad Ice-cream Sundae was top notch, the lady at the counter wasn't paying attention and got the order quantity wrong. So we had to wait for the second one. No bill was given until we explicitly asked for it!
The a/c doesn't do the job and it was cooler outside than inside! The al fresco seating outside needs some plants and fans. But the deal breaker was the lazy and lethargic service. The staff turned off two customers by citing a minimum 20-minute wait time to make a sandwich and keema poie respectively!! Interestingly, there are standees inside the cafe advertising the coffee-sandwich and keema-poie combos.
Nobody minds waiting a bit but to upfront state repeatedly that it will take so much time is a big deterrent. Obviously the staff is keen to push the ready-to-eat fare as it simply needs to be warmed. In a competitive place like Mapusa where cafes and bakeries abound, this place needs to shape up in order to stay in the game.

Read moreNice little place with friendly staff. Coffee is fine (especially their cold coffee), but the food is not good at all. Over the past year or so we've tried their hot food, pastries, cakes, cookies, and all of them were bland and tasteless. Inside (where there's AC) there are only a couple of places to sit. Outside there are a few more tables, but rarely is anyone sitting at the outdoor ones. We go there regularly only because there doesn't seem to be any proper "up-scale" coffee shops in Mapusa where you can hang out with friends in a nice relaxing atmosphere. Mapusa needs more nicer coffee shops for those who want a better experience than the hundreds of road-side, hole-in-the-wall "hotels" that serve basic chai and simple...
