Mother’s Day lunch at Atrangi - Memories made with good food.
First up, I would like to commend the team on their selection of crockery. Pretty looking dishes make the first impression better because you eat with your eyes first. After dining at plethora of places, I wouldn’t shy in admitting that they have the best looking plates and presentation. Simply superb.
Coming to the food, we ordered the following:
Crispy Lotus Stem & Water Chestnuts in Plum Sauce - My mother loves crispy lotus stem so this one was a no-brainer for us to order. Both, Lotus Stem and Chestnuts were crispy as promised. The sauce was balanced well - sweet, spicy and sour. I couldn’t help myself but to go for 2nd and 3rd servings. Exceptional.
Persian Cheese Kebab w Pickled Red Chilli Chutney - Cheesy Paneer Kebab grilled in the tandoor, charred appropriately to give out that beautiful Tandoor flavour. Special mention to the chutney that came along. It shined with the kebab. Red chilli chutney too, was so good that we saved up the remaining chutney to just have it with our mains. Lachha onions doused in hung curd and a hint of mayonnaise was the game changer. I could have had those just like a pre-starter. The onions get 11/10. Great stuff.
Banarasi Nimona Ricotta Kofta - Cheesy Kofta dunked in Nimona curry is a combination that went well than it sounds. My only feedback on this would be that it didn’t taste close to the pea mashed curry that Nimona is - it was more like a green gravy that is staple in the restaurants. It was mashed very fine and we couldn’t taste the peas properly. Curry was good but didn’t do justice to its name.
Olive and Jalapeño Naan - Unlike other restaurants where Naans are crispy at the edges, Naan at Atrangi was thicker at the edges. I am not someone who likes his Naan too crispy so it wasn’t an issue with me. Olive and Jalapeños missed the sour tang it has. Wasn’t bad though.
Laal Mirch Naan - Crispy Naan with red chilli powder and sesame was good. However, it had too much of sesame. Could have been little stringent with its usage.
Gesture of serving complimentary Mango flavoured Pani Puri is certainly admired. But the Mango juice felt like canned Mango juice. Little tempering it with chilli and diluting it a bit would make it better. Thick mango juice in a Pani Puri wasn’t going well IMO. Also, I am someone who detests Frylo type Puris that tastes more like Fryums than the puri. This one didn’t strike a chord with me if flavours are concerned.
Portion size for the prize is completely justified. Few places have got the portion size correct and Atrangi is one of them.
The wall adorning beautiful cute plates is helping them up their ambiance game big time. Check out the video

Response to comment:
We want to clarify that we fully understood the limitation of the Swiggy booking for only two guests. That is why we called your outlet about 30 minutes prior to our arrival to explain the situation and clearly mentioned that the app did not allow us to book for more than two people. The response from your staff over the phone was: "You come here and we will see to it."
However, upon our arrival, when we tried to discuss and resolve the issue with your management staff, they were unwilling to understand or cooperate. Instead, they advised us to take up the issue with Swiggy and not complain to them. When we further tried to find a solution and asked what could be done if we couldn’t come to an agreement, one of your staff members responded with, "You can always leave." Frankly, I have never encountered such a response at any restaurant.
If there are difficulties your establishment faces with online reservations, it would be more appropriate to de-list from those platforms rather than leave customers to resolve such issues themselves. Eventually, I had to make two new bookings on the spot using different apps to avoid embarrassment and unnecessary delay. This incident represents a clear lapse in hospitality and customer care.
If I am looking forward to a pleasant dining experience, I regret to say that your restaurant would now be my...
Read moreReview for Atrangi – The Modern Indian, Ahmedabad
We recently visited Atrangi – The Modern Indian and ordered a wide range of dishes — from starters to desserts and mocktails. Overall, the food experience was quite good, with a few exceptions.
We enjoyed items like the French Fries, Sweet Salad, and Edamame Truffle Dimsum — fresh and flavorful. The mocktails like Rose & Peach, Litchi Lemongrass, and Tandoori Pineapple were excellent and refreshing.
Main course items like Paneer Makhni, Tandoori Black Dal, Butter Naan, and Truffle Scented Rice were all tasty and well-prepared. The desserts, especially Dark Knight and Chocolate Mousse with Berry Caviar, were the highlight — rich and indulgent.
However, a few dishes didn’t meet expectations: • Turkish Cigar Rolls were just okay — presentation was nice but flavor was lacking. • Avocado & Cream Cheese Sushi was disappointing in both texture and taste. • Subzis like Cottage Cheese Kolhapuri, Palak Makhni, and Rajasthani Gatta Curry were bland and could use more depth in flavor.
Also, the service was quite slow, possibly because we visited on a busy Sunday.
Overall Rating: 4/5 ⭐ Great ambiance and some standout dishes, but a few items and the service need improvement. Worth a visit for the mocktails and...
