I recently visited this food place to satisfy my cravings for common and local tasty foods, and overall, it was a good experience. They offer a wide variety of delicious dishes that are sure to please any palate.
The first thing that caught my attention was the bustling atmosphere of the place. It was crowded with people, which is always a positive sign when it comes to food establishments. It indicated that the place is popular and well-liked by the locals, and rightly so. Despite the crowd, the seating area was well-managed, and I didn't have to wait too long to find a table.
The food itself was excellent. They serve a range of local delicacies that are packed with flavor. Whether you're in the mood for spicy street food or traditional dishes, this place has it all. The flavors were authentic and satisfying, making it a great spot for both locals and tourists to explore the local cuisine.
However, I must mention that the staff could use a little improvement in their demeanor. While they were not rude, I found them to be slightly impolite or indifferent at times. A warm and friendly attitude can go a long way in enhancing the overall dining experience. Despite this minor issue, the service was efficient, and I didn't face any major problems.
One aspect that impressed me was the cleanliness of the place. The food place was tidy and well-maintained, which is essential for any dining establishment. It contributed to a pleasant and hygienic dining environment.
Lastly, one notable advantage of this food place is its operating hours. They are open until early morning, which is perfect for late-night food cravings or for those who prefer a post-midnight snack. It's a convenient feature, especially in a bustling city where people are constantly on the move.
In conclusion, this food place is a great spot to indulge in common and local tasty foods. Despite some minor shortcomings with the staff's politeness, the delicious food, clean environment, and extended operating hours make it a worthwhile visit. I would recommend checking it out if you're in the mood for a flavorful...
Read moreBeing new to Ahemdabad, we went to explore the ever so famous Makek Chowk. Befor I divulge in my experience, I'm clearly stating that this is my opinion and others who may be big fans of the place have a right to be . My review is based on the following two points- This is an unbiased perspective since I have no emotional connection to the place. People might have as they may have been coming here for years. I've travelled almost across the country and have sampled many such places- the sarafa in Indore which is much better.
We went on a Tuesday night to avoid the weekend crowd. And man, was it crowded on a weekday. But since we had come we decided to explore. There is nothing much to pick from despite the numerous stalls since all of them offer the same fare- dosas, pav bhaji, sandwich and pulav- albeit different varieties in the 4 above mentioned items. Everything is doused in copious amounts of butter and oil and cheese to mask any other flavour that could be tasted. It's downright unhealthy.
Then the hygiene. I know it's street food so I knew what I was getting into but when I saw a metal tub of boiled yellow rice covered with two extremely dirty towels , I almost puked.
There were vendors selling icecream and other desserts which we skipped.
The bhel puri was palatable since we specifically asked him to make it accordingly to our taste.
But something did stand out - the jamun shots in little plastic cups lined with salt, sugar or a spicy mix as per ones preference. We took one without sugar added and lined with the spicy mix. Absolutely delicious. That was the one good thing there.
And nothing else.
Two stalls selling piping hot paneer tikkas were almost unvisited.
So all in all , for us, Manek Chowk was underwhelming. For locals, it holds a special place but outsiders may come here expecting something grand but it kind of...
Read moreNightlife in Ahmedabad revolves a lot around gastronomic heavens and Manek Chowk rules these heavens since decades.
Right in the heart of the old city, there is a square - jewelry market during the day. Every evening, around 6-7, the magic happens and it transforms itself into a guzzling food plaza. Jewelry shops close and the open parking space at the center of the square gets cleared to make space for food stalls and chairs-tables.
The seating area is shared by all the stalls. So, irrespective of where are you seated, you can order anything in the vicinity - from Pav bhaji, Pulau, Sandwiches, Uttapam, Dosas to Noodles, Manchurian and Pizzas. If you feel like eating something innovative, you can even go for Cadbury sandwich, Cadbury cheese pizza, Gwalia dosa, Ice-cream sandwich and Pineapple pizza. I have tried almost everything at least once and have never been disappointed. This is more of a group place - so you see a table typically occupied by a group of family or friends. It also works well because you get to try multiple things at one go when you are in a group.
Once you are done with the dinner, leave some space for desserts. And for that you “must” go to Asharfi’s kulfi which will bring you the most amazing varieties of kulfis. It is one of oldest chains in Ahmedabad, which started in the 1940s and has been pioneers of kulfi to the extent that the name Asharfi has become equivalent to kulfis for Amdavadis. They even claim that nobody has ever fallen sick due to their kulfi.
Overall, Manek Chowk has everything a foodie can ask for in terms of taste and quality of food. If you are in Ahmedabad,...
