It is a bit difficult to find a good and authentic South Indian restaurant in Ahmedabad. But, Thambi Bhavan has come to the rescue.
This is a very simple yet pleasant place. The interiors are minimalistic and the seating is very comfortable.
Coming to the food, South Indian food is one of the most scientifically beneficial foods in the world. Each dish has it's own unique taste as well as health benefits. So it means, this cuisine is both healthy and tasty at the same time.
I tried quite a many dishes here.
• Masala vada : A classic dal wada served with 2 types of chutneys and sambar. This was absolutely flavorful and crisp.
• Podi Idli : For the spice lovers. Mini Idlies topped with podi masala and tadka.
• Standard meal : This is something I had for the 1st time. It was a complete South Indian meal. It had all the authentic dishes which we all might not have even heard of. THIS IS THE MOST RECOMMENDED ITEM.
• Pessaratu Upma : This is a moong chilla with upma filling. A typical Andhra style dish. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
• Malabar Paratha : A kind of laccha paratha served with authentic Siuth Indian sabji.
• Coin Paratha : Similar to Malabar Paratha but this one is coin sized.
• Ghee Roast Dosa : The classic crisp dosa made in ghee. Favourite of all Amdavadis. A must have!
• Rava kesari : It is like sheera and is a perfect dessert for all the sweet tooth's
• Filter Coffee : DO NOT LEAVE WITHOUT HAVING THIS!
No food item is prepared and kept. So, place your order for filter kaapi first, talk your hearts out with your loved ones while you sip on to it and wait for your food to be freshly...

Read moreThambi Bhavan - as the name 'Bhavan' it is a spacious place with comfortable sitting. The staff is polite and attentive.
Beside the standard South Indian menu it also serves different style of pratha and some specials along with good options of dessert for sweet tooth people.
We ordered Masala Vada, Idly, Rasam, Plain dosa, Uttapam and mini thali.
The food tasted as good as home cooked, nothing like commercially cooked, no oil floating over samber, Rasam was a clear stew with tomato & seasoning (for the first time, in a restaurant, I found Rasam looking different from sambar).
We found the coconut chuntney bland, but the tomato chutney made up for it.Filter Coffee is what I always end my South Indian meal with, here it didn't meet my expectations. Have had better at other place.
Cost wise it is as good as other restaurants on SBR.
They do need to get their staff aware of the dishes on the menu as only the captain and the manager could help us in understanding the dishes.
Overall a...
