This was my first visit to Jalsa and I've got mixed reviews.
Food: The momo were order (ladakhi and Kothey) were spot-on; juicy, tasty and with the perfect filling. The dry gyathuk didn't really hit the mark as they used vegetables that aren't originally used in traditional Tibetan/ladakhi cuisine. That along with the generic chinese fast food taste didn't feel authentic to me. Drinks were interesting, generic and overpriced.
Ambience: The lighting could've been slightly more bright but it's not an issue. Music volume was comfortable but I wish they'd played some nice songs instead of generic instrumental music.
Service: The server didn't seem to know what were the specials and had absolutely zero knowledge about their own drinks. When asked which mocktails had soda/we're fizzy, she replied get a fresh lime soda instead. Come on, do better.
Washrooms: The washroom was bad. Maybe this is a one-time issue but bad washrooms do spoil the mood so no points for cleanliness.
I'd come here again just for those delicious momo but I'll skip those overpriced...
Read moreIt was my first experience with Tibetan / Ladakhi food. The server was very helpful and tried to explain what the different dishes were. He also helped us make a selection on the menu.
We decided to have ting momos and saphta on his recommendation and we were pleasantly surprised.
Ting momos - are not regular style momos and have no filling / taste of their own. It is a bread and has a taste similar to a freshly made kulcha.
Saphta - it is a sweet sour preparation with soya chaap. It had a gravy Manchurian like consistency and taste but was refreshing because the soya was completely cooked and did not leave an after taste.
Jeera aaloo - it was a back up dish we ordered but wasn't really needed.
Drinks - both the mocktails were pretty average. I got the cranberry juice changed on request because the original drink was super sweet.
I would want to go there once again and have a taste of their...
Read moreI went there on 22nd June with a friend. We ordered Yarkandi chicken momos. The food took over 30 mins to arrive. Initially the server told us that he will punch in the order for momos and meanwhile I can think over other dishes to order so we agreed. He never came back to ask for more. The drink we ordered was a single malt 60ml which was sitting on the bartender's table and we had to ask someone to get it for us. When the food finally arrived, there was no serving spoon or tongs. We had to ask for it as well as the cutlery. So all in all a bad experience all because they had a big group dining in thee and their staff was focussed on them. We were ignored like unwelcomed guests and so we ate, paid at the counter and left. I had high hopes because a friend recommended to go there but I don't think I'll go back again or recommend to anyone. I had more things on my mind to try but I'll look for...
