Rejuvenate your taste buds!
Mr Naresh Sood, now 70, started Mayur Restaurant in 1970, when the hippy culture was in vogue and the place is still very famous with foreigners. He was later joined by his younger brother Mr Rajesh Sood, in his 50s now.
The kitchen has been solely managed by the brothers for last 50 years, in order to maintain the authenticity and taste-consistency of their preparations. Every delicacy served on your table is prepared by either one of them. They double up as owners as well as chefs to ensure that foodies get a uniform taste and perfect experience on every visit. On offer are the authentic dishes like Tandoori Trout, Chicken Tikka Masala, Rogan Josh, Chicken Rara, Sepu Bari (local veg delicacy) and much more.
An added flavour to the food comes from the warm hospitality offered by the staff and owners alike. A unique specialty of a family run non-franchised business. Prices are bit on a higher side, but overall experience justifies the same. Senior Mr Sood was kind enough to share his experiences of building and keeping the place authentic for 50+ years, over a cup of coffee. Perfect close to a scrumptious dinner.
Check out the place on your next visit to Manali and I am sure you will thank me later. Bon Appetite!

Read moreWe had lovely memories of this restaurant with its delicious food, prompt service, amiable staff and warm ambience. We had visited this restaurant around 40 times during 1999 to 2003.It was a bustling place with cheerfulness all around. We again visited in 2010, even then it retained its charm. However when we visited it on 8th December, we were in for a nasty shock.Om 7th, it was closed at 9 pm only. And on 8th when we entered, the waiter insisted on turning us out saying that they had lack of staff. But when we said we don't mind, he let us enter. There were only two tables with guests and he was telling all of us that there is lack of staff and he can't fulfill our orders. When we ordered from the menu, he refused thrice stating unavailability, then when we got unhappy and ordered one item and waited for that to come, he refused more than six group of customers. Then we ordered second item and he said why don't you order at one go, why have you come here to timepass. There is a disco upstairs and I have to take care of that also.
The food presentation was good, but taste was bland, the worst was waiter behaviour he kept on talking as if he was doing a favour to us. Even at the time of payment he said he doesn't accept card, nor Paytm nor phonpe. The worst waiter I have ever encountered
I request the owner to please take charge as this was a lovely place to have food at any...
Read moreI am a Japanese living in the Himalayas.
I highly recommend this restaurant. We asked the nearby Airtel staff to tell us a good restaurant. Then, two of the staff said that he was here without hesitation.
Chicken biryani which I ordered first has a deep taste. Butter chicken curry is a wonderful harmony with a smoky aroma and refreshing acidity of tomatoes.
Above all, clean, cheerful staff and owners. The decoration and system of the tandoor on the ground floor are wonderful.
When we visited for the second time, there was a colorful birthday party. You can see that it is popular. Garlic Cheese Nan is the most refined taste I have ever liked. On the tableware, the name of the shop and the logo are also printed.
It has been written since 1970. A wonderful restaurant that has been loved for a long time.
My husband is a chef. He is also Japanese and cooks many national dishes. He who has eaten a lot of delicious food also likes this restaurant.
One of the staff greeted me in Japanese. Great hospitality.
