PAHARI CAFE — Restaurant in Himachal Pradesh

It was our first time at this place, and sadly will be our last. We excitedly ordered the cottage cheese steak with mashed potatoes, expecting a sizzling 'steak' with a lovely creamy buttery mash. Proper comfort food, and something we haven't seen in restaurant menus around Mcleodganj.

What we received was miniscule portions which were cold, bland, and tasteless. Despite having confirmed that we don't want green chilies, there were small pieces in the tiny portion of vegetables.

It's obvious that the chef doesn't have any idea of what a 'steak' is meant to be, since the paneer was sliced into three tiny thin pieces, less than what other restaurants around serve as a starter.

We were still hungry after having ordered what we assumed was a main course 🤦🏾. We tried to speak to the manager about this, and found him to be rude, defensive, and completely unwilling to listen to us.

He had no training in how to de-escalate the situation, and no idea how to retain customers. His resolution was that we should have ordered the Nepali thali instead! How is that logic?!!

He offered us some free cake, of which we took one bite, and left, since it was undercooked and tasted like it had been left out for days. It looked and tasted like a dry piece of sponge. We headed to a nearby cafe to satiate our hunger.

This was our second trip to McLeod Ganj, and after trying several restaurants in the area, none came close to the food experience we had at Pahari Cafe. Every dish we ordered was bursting with flavor and beautifully presented — truly tempting and delicious in every bite.

Every dish was served with generous portions and tasted absolutely amazing. From the refreshing drinks to the creamy pasta and juicy grilled chicken, everything was top-notch.

Special mention to the hospitality of the entire staff — they were incredibly attentive, polite, and made great recommendations. You can tell they truly care about the customer’s experience.
