The Howrah Rail Coach Restaurant offers a unique dining experience set within a transformed railway coach, often themed like a Vande Bharat Express. Located near the Howrah Station New Complex at Bapu Uddyan, it aims to provide both a distinctive ambiance and a variety of food options. Here's a review based on common themes from various customer feedback: Ambiance and Concept: Unique Selling Proposition: The primary draw is undoubtedly the "rail coach" theme. Diners appreciate the novelty of eating inside a train compartment, which creates a distinct and memorable atmosphere. Many reviews highlight the Vande Bharat theme as a positive. Aesthetic Appeal: The interior decor is generally described as well-designed, cozy, and refined, with warm lighting. Some even mention a scenic view of the Ganges, adding to the charm. Food: Cuisine: The restaurant primarily serves North Indian and Chinese cuisine. Quality: Reviews on food quality are mixed. Some customers praise the delicious food, while others have expressed disappointment, particularly regarding kebabs or the general quality. It seems to vary. Variety: The menu is reported to have a lot of items, though some reviews mention that certain items may be unavailable or take a long time to prepare. Price: The price for two is generally around ₹450-₹500, which is considered reasonable by many. Service and Other Aspects: Service Issues: This is the most frequently cited area for improvement. Many reviews point to poor service with long waiting times, non-professional staff, and slow service. Comfort: While the ambiance is good, some reviews mention issues with AC temperature not being adjustable and even dirty seats or smelly washrooms, which detracts from the overall comfort. Location: Its proximity to Howrah Station makes it convenient for travelers. Operating Hours: It generally operates from 11:00 AM to 10:30 PM daily. Overall Impression: The Howrah Rail Coach Restaurant is best viewed as a place for a novel dining experience, especially for those who enjoy the railway theme. It has the potential for a great meal, but inconsistency in food quality and, more significantly, service issues, are common complaints.
It's a place that seems to offer a distinct "vibe," but the practicalities of a restaurant experience (food consistency, speed of service) sometimes fall short for...
Read moreI visited the Restaurant yesterday for the very first time since it's opening, I went there with my friends at evening.
Here's what we ordered (everything one portion and veg). Also my personal ratings out of 5 to the food items. Crispy Chilly Baby corn.(4 for quantity but and crispness not 5 for a being a bit sweet) Mushroom Chilli dry. (5 Taste, Quality and portion) Veg Hakka Noodles (4 Taste and Quality were good but the portion was a bit less.) Veg Spicy Garlic Noodles.(3.5 A bit too spicy for someone with average spice tollerance and not for kids, portion was good and quality was nice also had a bit burnt taste like burnt garlic) Veg Manchurian. (4 Nice taste, the Manchurian balls were fresh and tasted awesome, Manchurian specially helped to control the feeling of spice burning 🥵 of mouth... I would say really decent taste not too spicy or bland... But for someone who likes a bit spicy can not be that tasteful) Paneer Do Pyaja. (5 Portion was good, preparation and taste of the sabzi got me well deserved 5) Butter Naan. (4.5 Good taste, and what more can I say about a freshly prepared butter naan) Paneer Masala Kulcha (5 it was the one for me to go with Paneer Do Pyaja, the taste of both combined was next level would recommend trying this.)
The above mentioned foods are what I had, didn't eat any non veg as some of my friends were vegetarian so can't comment on non veg items. The above review on items are my personal opinion and experience of the food. The service and attitude of staff was nice, nice ambience options to eat outside or inside both. 👉Important Note: For people thinking of going in a big group you guys might be disappointed as all the seating arrangement is for 4 people both inside and outside per table but a small kid can be adjusted but for comfortable eating experience 4 people at one table. Well it's designed as a coach of our very own bullet train Vande Bharat so having a bit less space is understandable for it is designed to represent a train. This was to inform people so that it helps in planning.
Some photos are attached I didn't take photos of all the dishes just took image of starters and menu was busy enjoying gossip and food and not a blogger by profession just wanted to share...
Read moreI happened to dine at the Rail Coach Restaurant one afternoon unexpectedly, and to my surprise the experience turned out to be genuinely impressive.
The staff and servers were far different from the usual stereotype of government employees (we all know the expectations ). They were warm, welcoming and attentive.
The food was satisfying in every way.. quality, portions, and great taste.
If you’re planning a visit, definitely opt for a seat on the river facing side, the view elevates the whole experience.
The pricing is very reasonable too.
Regarding parking, If you’re on a two wheeler, you’ll need to park about 80 to 100 meters away and pay an extra 18 Rupees. But if you’re in a car, there’s easy parking right next to the restaurant.
The space is clean, well maintained and the views both from inside the coach and along the outside railing are truly calming.
Kudos to Eastern Railway for pulling this...
