This is another classic example of fancy yet done well although it does come with its limitations especially for those with specific preferences. Screaming Italian and French, Conçu, tucked away in the posh Jubilee hills, just behind Madhapur Metro Station, this café is minimalistic yet inviting and luxurious just like any other opulent cafe that specialises itself in European cuisine. I had the opportunity to visit this aesthetic cafe on a busy Saturday for dinner and yes, the place was packed as expected. However I managed to find a table for myself. After thorough reading of the 3 page menu card, what i realised was that the cafe was inclusive only for the sake of being inclusive. There is Vegan, Vegetarian, Egg dishes and Non-vegetarian but none had enough variety to choose from except for the Non-Vegetarian section which is the same case in almost every European cafe or restaurant. And the biggest disappointment would be the dessert section where there are only about a few desserts from a vast variety that are free of egg. I ordered the Pizza-Style Cheese Garlic Bread, Fettuccine Pesto Genovese, Signature Hot Chocolate and a Marquise. The Pizza-Style Cheese Garlic Bread was basically a less fermented sourdough base with a garlic aioli cheese sauce layered with mozzarella cheese and topped with garlic flakes. It was basically a few notches higher than La Pinoz Cheesy Garlic Bread but remains something I wouldn’t want to order again because of its inauthenticity and creaminess all because that’s definitely a mockery of the actual Garlic bread. And a point to note, the sauce that comes along with this garlic bread is the same as that is in the garlic bread. The Fettuccine Pesto Genovese was absolutely brilliant. I wasn’t quite the Pesto fan, but this restaurant made it addictive for me paired with al dente pasta, tangy sun-dried tomatoes, salty and savoury olives and not to mention the freshness of basil, garlic and other herbs. I’m definitely taking Pesto based dishes after this triumph. The Signature Hot Chocolate wasn’t really how I wanted it to be. I could be wrong of an actual hot chocolate when I want it to be rich, creamy and thick. Nevertheless, it wasn’t too sweet which is how i expect the taste to be. It was moreish, sinful, neither bitter nor too sweet, smooth with good richness. Definitely not the best hot chocolate I ever had but it is a tough contender from all the hot chocolates I ever had. And finally, coming to the dessert, the only eggless dessert available on the menu that day was the Marquise, a chocolate sponge encased in chocolate mousse and finally dipped in chocolate with almonds. It was fun, it was satisfying and it was delicious. The food overall was honestly on the expensive side. There were a few hits, a few misses and then some average affairs. Some weren’t worth the high price but overall neither heavy nor grossly bad. It felt homely rather than a high end restaurant which is a questionable vibe for a restaurant or cafe that places the prices of foods on the higher end. The staff were very attentive and actually do follow the pause and go method for servicing customers. Although they could do a little with menu knowledge and perhaps suggesting too. Conçu, on an overall note, isn’t bad, but isn’t something I would go back again. I may have enjoyed a handful of things, but not everything was worth it especially being a strict vegetarian. A good date night or perhaps a light snack here is fine.
3 stars with all...
Read moreConçu Hyderabad is a great spot if you’re craving desserts and looking for a cozy café atmosphere, but there are a few areas that could use some improvement.
Ambience & Vibe: The café has a lovely and warm aesthetic. The décor is tasteful, and it’s a comfortable place to unwind, whether you’re meeting up with friends or spending some quiet time alone. The outdoor seating is pleasant, especially in the evenings, but the indoor space can feel a bit cramped, especially during peak hours. Finding a spot to sit on weekends can be challenging, and it does get noisy, which takes away from the relaxed vibe.
Desserts: The desserts are definitely the highlight here. Conçu has a variety of beautifully crafted pastries, cakes, and tarts, and the quality is consistently good. My personal favorites are the Hazelnut Tart and the Pistachio Éclair, both of which are rich and flavorful. However, while the desserts look gorgeous, I’ve found that some of them can be overly sweet, especially the macarons. A little more balance in the sweetness would make them more enjoyable. Also, the price point feels a bit on the higher side for what you get.
Food Menu: Their savory offerings are decent but nothing extraordinary. The sandwiches and croissants are fresh, but I feel like the options are limited and the taste is fairly standard compared to other cafes in the city. I had the Avocado Toast once, and while it was good, it wasn’t something I’d go out of my way to order again. For a place that shines with desserts, the savory menu could use a bit more variety and flavor.
Coffee & Drinks: Conçu’s coffee is solid, though not exceptional. I’ve had their cappuccino a few times, and while it’s good, it lacks the depth of flavor that you’d expect from a café known for its drinks. Their iced coffees are refreshing, especially the Iced Caramel Coffee, but again, nothing stood out as particularly memorable. If you're a casual coffee drinker, you'll probably enjoy it, but for coffee aficionados, it might not hit the mark.
Service: The service is where Conçu could really improve. The staff are friendly, but during busy hours, it can take quite a while for orders to arrive. On a couple of occasions, I found the wait times for both food and drinks to be longer than expected, and there have been times where my order wasn’t quite right. They are polite and fix things quickly, but the consistency could be better.
Conclusion: Overall, Conçu is a nice café with some standout desserts and a charming atmosphere, but there are a few areas that need refining, especially when it comes to service and pricing. It’s a good place to visit if you’re in the mood for something sweet, but with the growing café culture in Hyderabad, there are several other places that might offer a more well-rounded experience.
